We're thinking about building or buying a greenhouse
Comments (10)Janet, I'm just the hunter/gatherer/builder while my wife is the grower/gardener. But I would build it where you want it, and make it structurally sound enough to withstand the elements, though I'd probably stop-short of making it hurricane-proof! In hindsight we probably should have built ours with at least a LITTLE protection from the midday sun, but since we didn't I have to make an exhaust fan/shutter system for it and possibly an evaporative cooler as well, a shade cover too at some point, regardless we do fully expect that we'll have to completely vacate it probably sometime in mid-Spring. You had said something about using windows you have--also that you need to "learn how to use it". Maybe you just want (need?) a comfy place to put a potting bench and overwinter some plants--whatever I say build what you think you want/can afford and go from there....See More2nd Wedding Gift Threads?
Comments (12)WIP - I don't mind when additional babies come so far after other's - it's just when they are being born one right after another that I start to scratch my head as to why there has to be a full blown baby shower for each one to buy all new things that were bought 2yrs ago. Ex-SIL and I are not 'friends' per se' in the fact that we don't actively seek eachother out to do things. It's not that we don't like eachother - she's just not my 'cup of tea'. Like many divorces it is sticky. Our in-laws have a very large expanse of land for the area. When making up their will they divided the property as follows: 1 son would get a smaller amount of acreage and the other would get the larger portion of acreage w/ MIL & FIL's house. BIL took the smaller plot and then asked for his share of his inheritance early to build a house. He let SIL build what she wanted and as soon as it was able to moved into he came clean w/ everything and asked for a divorce. He planned it that way so that their boys would inherit that land and he wanted to keep their children near their grandparents who live 1000+ yards away. BIL moved out of state to where he works (it was always a long distance marriage). That's why BIL will continue to pay the mortgage even after re-marriage and that's why see her on a regular basis. She is also marrying a close friend of both DH's and BIL so everybody's lives are oddly intertwined. She really doesn't have family anywhere else and my MIL firmly believes that she will forever be her daughter (and that's cool for her) so she's always around. So Pammyfay that's the long version of why we're invited. DH and I are also very involved w/ our nephews. A poster asked about their gift list (noted as 'Gift Ideas' on the card: Visa Gift Card Gift card for a woodburning stove Bed Bath and Beyond I totally see what was mentioned about DH's gift suggestion. Point well taken. I'll look at her Bed Bath and Beyond gift registry and make the suggestion to DH (who feels the same way as his mother about family) that we get something appropriate cost wise. Thanks for the suggestion and helping me see the way other people may take things. I'm seeing a lot less red!...See MoreWhat do you think about this RE agent review?
Comments (17)Thanks for the input. I couldn't be subjective knowing the circumstances, and I was curious if others thought it sounded as dumb as I did. To make it even worse, the things they complained about were things she couldn't possibly have known. One was a lint build-up in the dryer vent which was attached to a dryer at the time. Another was that they felt the A/C was too slow to cool the house. Once the house is cooled it maintains the temperature fine, but they thought it took too long to get there. When my agent called me last week to tell me about the negative review, she was pretty upset. The particular site only had one positive review of her, and then this negative review came along. She depends on military buyers for a lot of her business, and they would likely use the internet in their search for an agent and see the review. I told her I would write a positive review and suggested that she ask other previous clients to do the same. She asked the site to remove the review because they weren't her clients (it is the site's policy to only allow reviews from clients) and I flagged it as inaccurate and asked that it be removed. I just checked to see if it has been removed, and it's still there, but it's the last review of 19 reviews now. The other 18 are positively glowing and full of facts and anecdotes about how stellar she is. And really, she is probably the hardest-working and most conscientious agent I've ever run across, so I'm glad that it looks like the situation will have a happy ending for her....See MoreFood gift ideas - do we have this thread yet?
Comments (42)Bummer the John Derian Chocolate tin isn't going to arrive-- Bloomingdales sent a note saying it is delayed indefinitely. Boo. No big deal though-- I do have mom covered giftwise -- this was just a perfect add on. I have to say I was really pleased with the packaging and note that came from Flamingo Estate. I wish i had ordered more-- including something for ME! I will definitely order from them again. Probably too late for this year but my sister ordered a bunch of bread mixes from Soberdough in Nashville (I had to move the box inside for her as she and her family are out of town). Knowing her, she's likely to package the mixes with a bottle of beer and gift cards for all the adult kids. You simply add a bottle of beer or club soda to the mix and then bake in a loaf pan-- the flavors sound great.,.,. a good mix of savory or sweet flavors.
