What do you say we have a thread just on Sunflowers
Comments (57)And so do I! I planted sunflowers for the first time this past spring. I just bought seed packets everywhere I saw them , so had sunflowers from 12" to 12', lemon, orange, red, and even a couple of black ones! They made the side yard look so bright and cheerful, I'm going to do it again in 2015! I just need to find a way to keep the seedheads on the stalks till the birds have had their fill - I ended up cutting some and putting just the heads on a privet hedge next to my driveway. The cardinals went crazy for them - I LOVE SUNFLOWERS!!!...See MoreNeed pretzel food gift ideas
Comments (13)This may be more fussy than you want but I'll toss it out anyway. I make easy homemade, cheese-filled pretzels. I bought some from QVC years ago & we loved them so I started making them at home...easy. Make pizza dough. Tear off chunks of dough & roll into long strips about 1/2" wide. Take your rolling pin back/forth a couple times to flatten the strips. Brush strip with pizza sauce (lots of basil!) & sprinkle with a bit of mozz cheese. Roll up the strip as for cinn buns. Cut into 10" strips using kitchen shears. Then, loop each strip so it looks like one of the breast cancer awareness ribbons. Dab a bit of egg white where the loop crosses over the strip & push the top down a bit to adher. Brush the strips with olive oil infused w/garlic & then sprinkle with pretzel salt (available from KA). Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. If you need a pretzel dough recipe, I'll be glad to post. Yum. Pizza Pretzels! /tricia...See MoreDo we have a TGIF thread yet?
Comments (10)Lyra, I'm glad you had good results, but I agree, get it checked out and make sure you're really clear, it can't hurt. Sorry about the pizza, though... Sharon, she's been gone for 16 months and will only be home a few days before she leaves for grad school. Sigh. It won't be enough.....good luck with the "in laws". You're a great hostess, so lucky them! Snow, Al? It's sunny and 80 here, and we have had nearly no rain the entire month of April. It's supposed to rain this weekend, and I'm sure hoping, we have forest fire warnings and all kinds of stuff, and I was hoping to reseed part of the hayfield, but with no rain, that's kind of pointless. And my garden isn't even plowed yet, I've just been hoping for rain and I don't care plant anything for a couple of weeks yet, we're still getting hard freezes at night. ruthanna, you've sure been busy, but at leat you have lots of good food! Linda, happy birthday to Zoe. I suggest you buy her a pony. (grin) Mom2, scratch up those doxies for me... Alexa, I suppose it's going to be Lookin' At Lucky, although he has a crappy pole position. I like the filly, Devil May Care, or Smarty Jones' son, Backtalk, gotta love a 50-1 shot, LOL. The Derby just isn't the same with Dad gone, we spent the weeks before checking odds and bloodlines and jockeys, picked our favorites and place our "bet". Every year we bet $5 on the winner, and most years I beat him. (grin) Ah well, here it's housecleaning, I have to get the garden plowed, I have more fence to put up, and I'm in serious mode putting appetizers for that wedding in the freezer. I've only got a month left... Annie...See MoreWhat can I do for a food gift?
Comments (12)Ha! I had emailed the recipe and my notes to someone and found it: Toasted Spiced Cashews 4 cups unsalted cashews (about 1-1/4 lb.) 1 large egg white, beaten slightly 1/4 cup granulated sugar 4 tsp. garam masala 1-1/2 tsp. kosher salt 1/2 to 1 tsp. cayenne pepper Position a rack in the center of the oven and heat the oven to 325ðF. In a large bowl, toss the cashews with the egg white, coating the nuts evenly. Add the sugar, garam masala, salt, and cayenne. Toss again to combine. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment. Spread the nuts on the baking sheet and roast, stirring every 5 to 10 minutes and breaking up clumps if they form, until nicely browned, 25 to 35 minutes. Break up any clumps again while the nuts are still warm. When the nuts have cooled, put them in a serving bowl, and cover if making ahead. Makes 4 cups. MY NOTES: I used salted cashews, so skipped the additional salt. My garam masala is hot, so I only used an additional 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper. I frothed the eggwhite with a fork, added the spices to mix well, then dumped in a bunch of (unmeasured) nuts and mixed to coat. Poured it out onto aluminum foil on a cookie sheet and proceeded from there. The texture was perfect... crunchy, slightly sweet, and slightly spicy. We couldn't stop eating it!!!!!!...See Morel pinkmountain
