What a yucky week it has been. My doctor found a mass this week and freaked out. I was sent directly to the hospital for tests and have to see a specialist on the 15th. I think the doc is more excited then I am about it. I was going to have a cat scan done today but the tests from yesterday came back good enough that it was cancelled... meaning this is probably a big thing about nothing. Not supposed to eat red meat, spagetti, or pizza... but the doc didn't forbid beer!

Went out for pan fried walleye last night at the best place around. Yoko kitty is giving me her version of a cat scan at the moment. Thinking about going to work today... but mostly thinking I don't want to go.

So glad it turned out to be nothing, Lyra. Bummer about the red meat, spaghetti and pizza, but very happy you can clink to Friday with a beer! LOL

Tomorrow is my grand-daughter Zoe's first birthday. The kids are having a pig roast to celebrate so that should be fun. Hard to believe she is already a year old!

Other than that, I hope to get some gardening done this weekend. Everything is so early this season because it's been so warm!

AAH....Michael....that stinks...thinking all good thoughts for an over excited Dr....but better get it scanned and fixed than not...
Stay home....drink beer and pet the kitties.
I'm looking at the garden and watching the rain....so maybe I'll have to finally get some laundry sorted out....guests coming for dinner Sunday...

As to a frother.Nozzles come with various functions-tulip,bell designs.A frother has the water heavily aerated.It comes out of the nozzle head like a froth of egg-white.It requires,from my limited research,a pump( of at least a 1/2 inch inside diameter outlet)of a volume minimum of 170 gph,more being better,apparently.I've ordered a couple of them to play with.As I said,I got a good price in CDN dollars.I'll report on the success(or no )in a couple of weeks. As to the balls-the whole concept here is to keep everything INSIDE the ball,but well visible.Be it a froth or some other nozzle,lit or no.This concept would work very well on the thousands of balconies in Vancouver and the new condos in the outlying areas.The ball is light(14 lbs minimum to 20 +,depending on number of coatings of Mymud),it doesn't take a great deal of water(A guess at this point would be a depth of 6-8 inches)and it looks ...well,tres cool! The bad thing is that I'm hungrier, and it's hard to stick to the calorie level that seems to produce rapid weight loss for me. I've been missing my target fairly often, and it feels like my body wants more food. So I've started packing a bento-type lunch, as mentioned in another thread, in hopes that at least my calories will be healthy ones. This is a classic example of dieting vs. lifestyle changes. Dieting is a temporary way of eating with the goal of losing weight, while lifestyle changes are a permanent change in one's lifestyle with the ultimate goal of improving one's health in all areas including weight loss (if it's necessary). IMO when someone says they "can't lose weight", what they really mean is "I can't lose weight as fast as I want to", and so they give up. The "diet" industry has brainwashed us into thinking that if we don't lose at least 1-2 pounds per week, then something must be wrong, and that's a big lie. Choose fruit over chips -- not because they're a "diet" food or "low-cal" but because fruit is a much healthier choice than fried potato chips. Eat a salad full of veggies with lean chicken -- not because it's a "diet" meal but because it's full of healthy nutrients that are good for you! Include a piece of 100% whole grain bread if you want and even a little bit of butter -- yes, butter! Take smaller servings (and only one of each -- don't go back for seconds) and skip the gravy and creamy sauces --- they're not necessary if food is well-seasoned. Eat smaller amounts more frequently. Don't skip lunch if you're planning a nice dinner out -- just eat a smaller dinner (dinner out doesn't have to mean overeating). Have a dish of ice cream now and then, just not most days of the week. Don't eat "diet" foods (low-fat cookies, etc) --- just skip those snacks altogether and eat the real thing only on special occasions. That's how I slowly lost 50 pounds several years ago, about 1-2 pounds per month, eating ~1800 calories a day of healthy food choices and increasing my exercise, and have kept off every single ounce even during holidays and stressful times. During the holidays I don't eat as many cookies because "I don't do that anymore", simple as that. I dropped those bad habits and they're not a part of my life anymore. Prior to losing weight I had acid reflux and have a family history of diabetes. The acid reflux is completely gone (without taking a single purple pill) and probably so is my risk of diabetes. I don't have the metabolism of a race horse; I'm a typical middle-aged woman with a desk job. I made simple but important permanent lifestyle changes in eating and exercise, and I stuck with it and persevered no matter how slowly the scales budged, and some months they didn't budge at all!

Hi texasfern, thanks for the info - I know what you mean about heat. It's blistering here in summer too. The two bowls I am doing are also ceramic bisque fired. I got them at the thrift shop and just couldn't resist them since they were a nice big size of 15 inches in diameter. I didn't know what cone I could fire them to so I couldn't glaze them for fear they'd melt. So I decided to mosaic them. I should have used a plumb bob when I marked the center instead of just eyeballing it from above the rulers. I'll do better next time. I also work in ceramics - handbuilt pieces from slabs to Cone 10 thus far. You can see some of my work at the link and I have a ceramic blog under the same title. I took a ceramic bead class - now that's really fun, because beads are small and easy to deal with. Right now I am getting my kiln (skutt) connected up so I can do the ceramics at home instead of just at the college and a friend is building me a slab roller, but that is a whole other topic I guess. Do you seal your pieces after you grout them - particularly the birdbath? If so what do you use to seal them? How do they do holding water, does the grout stain or get any algae buildup with use outdoors? You've given me an idea about going to the tile store I used for remodeling my house (2 bathrooms and our living room) and seeing what they throw away. They threw away 4 pieces of slate when I did my living room right in the trash can - I wasn't doing mosaic then so I didn't even think about it. I could have done something really neat with all those pieces. And I have a wet saw - not sure how easy it would be to cut the pieces real small with a wet saw though - I might try it though. I am on my way out to cut the grass and finalize the lawn cleanup for our annual Derby Day Party tomorrow. I will be clinking something later, but fot now it is straight Propel (peach) and lots of sun screen. Here's to a happy and safe weekend to all and everyone keep a positive thought for a great race tomorrow and let all those lovely Thoroughbreds come home safely.

Happy Friday everyone!

Lyra, What a relief to hear that the result came back negative. Hope all will go well for you from here on.

This week has been chaotic here, got lots of snow/rain/slush and yesterday was pretty much a big blizzard. Fortunately, today is sunny and no sight of snow. Seems like we will have a break before more snow next week. So will try to enjoy the decent weather for the next couple of days!

Al-I hear you about the weather. Temps below freezing a couple of days ago here and now it is supposed to be 80 today.

As for us, I am finishing up some sewing today while the landscapers are here working on the mulch. It will be a year tomorrow since Lily joined our family. It is supposed to rain all weekend here,so I hope to get some odds and ends done. DH is off on Monday so we have a long weekend to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.

Hectic crazy weekend and week coming up. Meredith comes home Tuesday! Yay!!! She's been gone 16 months. It actually went quickly but I bet my baby that gets off that airplane isn't the same one that got on it 16 months ago!

Her BF's parents are driving from New Brunswick to be here when the kids arrive. Of course I had to offer to put them up. They arrive Sunday, the kids don't arrive until Tuesday evening and we don't know these folks at all!!! I have no idea when they all leave but I'll bet they are here to Thursday when Meredith heads off to grad school.

So I'm airing comforters, making beds, washing, cleaning and cooking this weekend! I really want to be in the garden but there is no way.

Wish me luck with the "inlaws!"

This week was a food-filled one with attending a community college program in the kitchen of a Brazilian restaurant, a day of pinching pierogies at our church, presenting my "You'd Better Believe It's Butter!" program to a large fire company's women's auxiliary, and a terrific trip to a farmers' market this morning.

Have a great weekend and I'll be thinking of you, Alexa, when I put on my Derby hat.

oh my gosh, Sharon - I can't believe Meredith's been gone that long - I can't wait to hear about her homecoming! She will have some tales to tell (or maybe she won't want to tell...) But I bet she's got lots of pics! (if she hasn't emailed them already)

Linda sounds like our weather....winter in the morning and summer in the afternoon.

I had forgotten about the derby - I'm guessing Scott did too. I'll have to remind him!

I've been out buying pots for my deck that was completed too late in the summer last year to do anything with...(I know - poor grammar) but I really want to spruce it up! Have had the pool heater going since this AM and it's up to 74 - so we will be swimming later I presume.

Quoits and grilled wings with the neighbors tonight....:-)

Sharon, she's been gone for 16 months and will only be home a few days before she leaves for grad school. Sigh. It won't be enough.....good luck with the "in laws". You're a great hostess, so lucky them!

Snow, Al? It's sunny and 80 here, and we have had nearly no rain the entire month of April. It's supposed to rain this weekend, and I'm sure hoping, we have forest fire warnings and all kinds of stuff, and I was hoping to reseed part of the hayfield, but with no rain, that's kind of pointless. And my garden isn't even plowed yet, I've just been hoping for rain and I don't care plant anything for a couple of weeks yet, we're still getting hard freezes at night.

ruthanna, you've sure been busy, but at leat you have lots of good food!

Linda, happy birthday to Zoe. I suggest you buy her a pony. (grin)

Alexa, I suppose it's going to be Lookin' At Lucky, although he has a crappy pole position. I like the filly, Devil May Care, or Smarty Jones' son, Backtalk, gotta love a 50-1 shot, LOL.

The Derby just isn't the same with Dad gone, we spent the weeks before checking odds and bloodlines and jockeys, picked our favorites and place our "bet". Every year we bet $5 on the winner, and most years I beat him. (grin)

Ah well, here it's housecleaning, I have to get the garden plowed, I have more fence to put up, and I'm in serious mode putting appetizers for that wedding in the freezer. I've only got a month left...

Lyra, my DH went to the doctor once and he said he felt a huge mass in his neck. The doctor recommended he see an ENT but before he sees another doctor he should take out as much insurance as possible! He came home white as a sheet. I was furious with the doctor making a statement like that without any tests. DH went to the ENT and he said he didn't feel a thing. Didn't know what the first doctor was talking about....that was about 35 years ago. Stay cool and best wishes.
