The Animal Statue: Pets Without Responsibilities
No time or room for a pet yet? Get your fix with some animal energy that won't scratch the furniture
If you’re an animal lover like me, you probably fawn over your friends' pets and dream about the day you can take home your own. If you’re even more like me, that day unfortunately isn’t until you’ve got a little bit more time to be appropriately responsible for a pet.
Therefore I came up with a brief solution for the pet-less interlude: the animal statue (faux, of course). Okay, so they don’t cuddle or wait for you by the door or look at you with those puppy-dog eyes, but they also don’t shed, require walks or eat your furniture. Plus, there is no limit to the type of pet you desire! Check out the following finds; hopefully, for the meantime, they’ll help you get your fix, too.

This is the only greyhound that can manage to gracefully top off a coffee table without leaving a single scratch. Plus, talk about a conversation piece!
The key to making your bathtub feel like a tropical getaway: pairing it with a few grazing storks, preferably in front of a window.
Who needs knickknacks when you can outfit your console with a relaxed antelope? Pair it with nature-inspired wallpaper and it’s as if you planted him right back in his natural habitat.
It’s unlikely much of your home would be left in one piece if you had real elephants as pets (images of Jumanji are running through my mind). Keep your home on its feet by getting your fix with these mini statues instead.
Or go a bit more realistic with a larger elephant statue. Here's one enjoying the view, wondering where the grass is.
No need to be in the Sahara to dine with a few lions. The nice thing about statues: these lions are always friendly, and won't eat your dinners. (Or you, for that matter.)
This hippo acting like a foot stool seriously cracks me up. The cleanest hippo in all the land, he’ll balance out your room’s setup while introducing a great sense of humor. And all while keeping your neutral carpeting stain-free!
All the way from the jungles of Africa to your living room, this tiger makes his presence known. I like to think he’s in this stance to scare off intruders and protect his beloved family.
These faux giraffes may not be as tall as their real-life ancestors, but they’ll do the trick, and they won’t eat your trees.
In the world of pet statues, lambs are welcome to graze indoors. In fact, they don’t even need grass. They’ll eat air if that’s all you have. What a budget-friendly animal!
Day in and day out, no matter what you do, this little ceramic pup is going to stare back at you with this endlessly adoring look. Talk about unconditional love.
