This is pretzel country. I don't know if your county has a local company, but there are local pretzel companies here that I'm sure sell in your area. Get them a nice big tin of Sturgis or Bachman cheese pretzels. You can order online. Or maybe your farmer's market has a stand where they sell the big tins.

If you don't want to deal with shaping, why not just make them into cheese pretzel sticks instead? They will still get cheese "pretzels" and you save a lot of work. Just a thought. Al

L, here a "cheese pretzel" is just a soft pretzel with some of that melted cheese dip kind of stuff to dunk it in. I know you can buy unbaked soft pretzel dough and jars of the cheese stuff...

I made dozens of chocolate covered pretzels for the holidays and they were quick and easy to make. Both rods and little twists were super easy and didn't cost an arm and a leg.... Just melt chocolate (I used store brand chips) and dip one end of the rod. Twists were a little harder since I submerged the whole thing and scooped them out with a fork.

I know they aren't cheese, but maybe they might be well received too!

I agree with CC. We are living in the heart of pretzel land. I adore the Unique Splits (I believe from Reading)and they come in all sorts of flavors. Put those out with a variety of nice mustards for dipping.

I sometimes find them at the Acme but never a Super Fresh. More often I find them at small grocers.

I also love pretzels on coffee ice cream.

I bought bags of different shaped pretzels and dunked them in melted chocolate. Some got the addition of sprinkles, chopped nuts, etc. Tres easy!!!!

I was going to suggest chocolate dipped - like Alexa suggested.
You can also use white chocolate and sprinkle with candy canes (smashed up) or other candies - serve the rods tied with some raffia - great at Christmas time and a fun project to do with kids.

I am amazed they would rather have pretzels than cc cookies.
Maybe buying a variety of brands and flavors, salted and non salted, stuffed and not stuffed (peanut butter) and making a "gift type basket" would be easier and appreciated. Perhaps it is easy for them to snack on pretzels and keep their hands clean. I don't think I've ever had cheese pretzels.

Could you put the mini twists on a baking sheet (with parchment), then sprinkle some grated cheddar cheese on top and broil until the cheese bubbles and gets crispy????

Sounds good. In theory.

Chocolate dipped is always good. Try the very large sticks (about 1/2' thick and 6" long) dipped in chocolate then drizzled with a contrasting color. They can be individually wrapped, 3-packs, or just served on a pretty platter.

This may be more fussy than you want but I'll toss it out anyway.

I make easy homemade, cheese-filled pretzels. I bought some from QVC years ago & we loved them so I started making them at home...easy.

Make pizza dough. Tear off chunks of dough & roll into long strips about 1/2" wide. Take your rolling pin back/forth a couple times to flatten the strips. Brush strip with pizza sauce (lots of basil!) & sprinkle with a bit of mozz cheese. Roll up the strip as for cinn buns. Cut into 10" strips using kitchen shears. Then, loop each strip so it looks like one of the breast cancer awareness ribbons. Dab a bit of egg white where the loop crosses over the strip & push the top down a bit to adher. Brush the strips with olive oil infused w/garlic & then sprinkle with pretzel salt (available from KA). Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Oh Tricia, would that I was a bread baker like you! I'm going to check the groceries to see if they sell the premade dough, although I could maybe try making it in the bread machine. Yes, I know, I live in soft pretzel land, and there is a place that sells them at the Farm Market, but soft pretzels really have a limited shelf life. Immediately when the woman I was talking to said pretzels, I thought chocolate dipped, but then she said they really liked the cheese ones. I was also surprised that cheese pretzels won out over CC cookies, but it is a mostly guy group back there. I would LOVE to buy them pretzels and beer, but since this is a publicly funded educational institution, I just don't think it would fly!

I was thinking hard pretzels, Lpink. They last a long time, and they come in nice big tins.
