I have an old round/oval maple drop leaf dining table that was a hand-me-down from my MIL. I always leave the drops up. In fact, I'm sitting at one now using my laptop, my official home base. The drop ends are very stable. The only time I drop them is to move the table which is basically never. Both leaves are in, so I have a 6-ft. oval, but it's nice and wide, about 48". With the leaves out and the drops down, it becomes more like a console table. It's very versatile.

That's a nice looking table. And the sizes of it (72" - 102") are nice useful sizes to have.

It's GORGEOUS! I see it comes with 2 captain's chairs and 3 side chairs. If you need more than that, are you concerned about them matching?

Harden is an excellent brand, and will hold its value if you want to re-sell.

Thank you all for responding. I think it is a lovely table and as long as it is in good shape when I go to see it I am sure I will take it home with me. I have been in contact with the seller who is away until the 6th of January. That fits my time frame very well.

My hope is that I will be able to use the table on a day to day basis with one leaf in but with the sides down. That way it will be perfect for just my husband and I but easy to put up one or both of the sides when we have friends stop by. My current table is used for every meal, everyday as well as for larger numbers, family visits and holidays. Our family is now 8 people, my current table works, but with two pregnant daughters, we will soon be 10, that is with no other family or friends.

my3dogs, I'm not sure I need to have 6 chairs. Our home is small and I already have several side chairs that I can and do use. As smiling said, Harden is a very good brand and, they are still in business. If I find that I need a 6th chair to match, I would contact them to see if they could have/sell/make a replacement. Just a thought.

That is a beautiful and functional table. We have an antique Duncan Phyfe dropleaf table in our LR, where it serves as a library table most of the time. On Christmas day we opened it up in the living room with the 2 leaves to seat a larger crowd than our DR can accommodate. It is perfect table for your situation. I looked long and hard to find our table and have been so happy with the way it functions. When we bought ours (CL also) we took only 2 of the chairs offered with it. Like you we have several chairs, but those 2 do come in handy. Hope you buy it!

My parents had a very similar table (PA House), and it was very easy to use.

We have almost the identical table in our dining room. We have 2 leaves in all the time and we pull up the sides when the group gets larger. 10 are easy at the table. If your put a child and an adult at each of the ends, 12 fit as well.

Our table is a 1940 Tell City table and it's been a wonderful table. Oh, we leave 4 side chairs in place all the time.

Hi, Kids. Update on the table listed on Craig's list: it was a no-go. The owners returned to the home after their Christmas away on January 7th. I went over to their house on the 8th only to find that the table was not exactly as pictured. The finish was much darker than it appeared in the picture and the legs that support the leaves when they are 'up' were not as stable as they should be. It didn't take me more than 3 seconds to know that, it was not my table. I was disappointed but I will just have to keep looking. My table is out there, somewhere. Thanks, Kids. Your opinions were much appreciated.

Sorry to heat that, but be patient and I am sure you will find one that suits your needs. It took me almost a year of searching to find ours. Don't give up!
