I thought it would be fun to tell what were having for dinner on Christmas . I will actually be having my dinner tomorrow evening. Now that I'm older and raising these two young boys its easier, besides my boys won't want to have a sit down dinner Christmas Day lol.

Ham with pineapple, cherry and brown sugar glaze.

Whipped Potatoes

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Corn on the cob, cooked than I scrape it off the cob (no cobs at my dinner table)

Brussel Sprouts

Fresh Green Beans with Almond slivers and herbs

Cranberry relish

Pickled eggs with Beets

Tiny Potato Rolls

Banana Nut Bread

tons of baked good that this year I did not bake as I was fairly sick for a week...so I ordered from a country bakery in town.

Last night I had to boil whole white potatoes till almost done..after son called requesting my whipped cream potatoes LOL..Have any of you ever had them? Boil potatoes night before and after cool put in frig...next day butter a casserole dish...using a grater grate cold potatoes (skin removed) into dish in about 2 in layers..dot with butter salt lightly..continue until your done with potatoes...than pour a pint of heavy whipping cream evenly over them..bake at 350 45 minutes till bubbly and top is golden..delish..and no there's no sweetener in the whipping cream.

Last year Christmas happened to coincide with Hanukkah so I invited a few Jewish friends over and made latkes. Everyone was thrilled to have something fun and social to do on Christmas day - you know, there's not a WHOLE lot going on that day if you don't celebrate Christmas. :) So, this year, although Hanukkah is over, I decided to do another Christmas "Jewbilee". I'm going to make a turkey the day before so I can serve sliced turkey, along with Sol's honey rolls. In addition, I'm having: French bread slices with two TJs bruschetta toppings (picked up by Nathan in New York for me!) Walnut topped with Bleu Cheese and Grape (I posted the recipe on the walnut thread) Raw Veggies with Sun-Dried Tomato Dip plucked off of the Basil thread, posted by cabogirl Cheese blocks - I set out hunks o' cheese and people slice pieces off. This is wildly popular. My old standard, hot/sweet Jelly over cream cheese For dessert I'm making Martha Stewart's English Toffee Pecan Pie, and a friend is bringing a Hershey Bar Pie. I'm expecting 20 people. A couple of them will probably bring more munchies but I don't have any definite promises of specific things. I'm wondering if this is enough, I might make some meatballs in a ketchup/beer sauce as well. Merry Christmas to you all!

It will just be two of us for Christmas eve. We usually do seafood. Crab or lobster or something. I have 2 frozen tails. That might work. Or we might have fondue in front of the fire..... hmmmm Christmas day we are doing Thanksgiving over again. My daughter had pneumonia over Thanksgiving so she missed dinner here and said she really missed the turkey and stuffing we make. So it will be turkey part deux. Just 4 of us. Her and her BF and us. This weekend she is spending one night so we will be baking together on Sat. We haven't done that in years. Only making a few things as non of us want to eat it all. Mostly for gifts. Making biscotti and fudge and truffles. She will bring her dog.... so 2 dogs and 4 cats in the house. The cats will hide all day and the dogs will chase each other... will be a zoo here!

Glenda,what's in Bluebeery salad?? I love anything blueberry. We also had prime rib yesterday and chicken and some ham .Mashed taters & gravy,sweet potato casserole,corn,hawaaiian rolls,2 kinds of cranberry sauce,and my dil's mom brought a platter of sushi,lumpia and something else that escapes my brain right now.We also have/had sweet potato pie,pumpkin pie,cherry pineapple cobbler,and of course lots of cookies.We had about 15 people here,and a good time was had by all. Thanks all! Yes, BIL is sort of sad, an eating disorder hiding behind various undiagnosed GI issues, he has gradually eliminated every potential trigger from his diet (dairy, wheat, gluten, salt, sugar, fat, etc.) I think he boils the lettuce thinking it will be easier to digest. It's been an issue since his teens and he has been to so many specialists around the country who find nothing wrong. Not my monkey, not my circus. Invariably, MIL will make some broth or something for him and sneak some forbidden ingredient into it. Hard to blame her as he is rail thin and quite unhealthy looking. But that always causes a big blow up. Glad to hear that the ham is good, sas! I was thinking, maybe Funkyart can correct me if I'm wrong, that one would butterfly the raw shrimp, arrange in the dish, and put the buttered crumbs on top, then hold it. Then at the last minute just bake it to cook the shrimp and crisp the crumbs. Nini - I love shrimp and grits and would love the recipe if you've got it! (I'm a New England girl, but my dad's from Alabama, so I guess that's where I get my love of southern food :) )

Being German, and my spouse Swedish....Christmas is always the 24th!

Menu:

Baked ham with brown sugar glaze. Creamed cauliflower. Potatoes Au Gratin. Buttered Green beans. Stuffing (I just like it, LOL). Salad. Rolls. Apple Cobbler for dessert!

I should have bought some wine or whiskey lmao...cleaning and cooking andI'm in massive pain..damn old body. I think I won't get to bed till 2am...boys have to be asleep for santa to come and my house must be perfect for morning..talk about OCD..Sparky pass the wine please ..stop hogging it all lol.

Christmas with my family today. Baked ham, polish sausage, mushroom soup, blood soup - chanina sp?, pierogis, roasted root vegetables with balsamic glaze, garlic bread, assorted pastries that I also can't spell, nut roll and a birthday cake for Jesus - my grandmother always insisted. Mass at midnight. Merry Chrustmas to you all!

Thank You Sandy...I baked a coconut cake for tomorrow..I'll explain to the boys that the cake is to celebrate the birth of Jesus...they will like that and it will become a tradition...I think its a great tradition to start for these boys...I'm sure when they are old men they will continue...I'll also tell them about you and how your grandmother always baked a cake for Jesus...Thank You Sandy.

Delicious-sounding menus! I usually do a full, traditional Christmas dinner spread, but scaled back this year, with a completely different menu (= much easier)! Christmas Eve dinner -- homemade lasagna, salad, crusty bread, and white cake with white icing to celebrate parents' 50th anniversary -- and mimic their actual 1965 wedding cake (yes, they married on Xmas Eve). Christmas Dinner: Salisbury steak with brown (beef) gravy, scalloped potatoes, green peas, shoe peg corn, and dinner rolls. For Xmas breakfast, we had an assortment of mini ham and sausage biscuits and sausage balls for grazing. I scrapped the Xmas breakfast casserole this year, too! My mother said she actually preferred this year's pared-down menu. :)

Vetwife..I've scaled back also to easier dishes for Christmas, getting older and raising two small boys requires some cut backs yet with still providing traditions for the boys.

Another thing we do here is a few days before Christmas the boys and I go thru their toy boxes, they choose all the toys they no longer want and we bag them up. After all the gifts are opened Christmas morning we load the bagged up toys into the van along with a tupperwear of homemade blueberry pancakes, about 75...and drive 3 miles to the women and children's shelter where we drop them off for the kids there. My boys are now old enough that they understand the children in the shelter have no home and often no toys so they look forward to sharing their toys.

Too bad I failed so terriably with my eldest son, the boys father.....of course Amiee reminds me..Mom you didn't fail with Michael....Michael failed with his boys.

We need a major old toy cleanout here. Great idea! You didn't fail Mama. As my son gets older I realize that free will is a hobgoblin of parenting. Lol.

Sandy...just want to let you know the Birthday Cake to Jesus was a huge hit for the boys...they thought it wonderful but next year little Chip says make chocolate because Jesus will like it better..LOL.

Over endulged this year.

Prime Rib Roast, Yorkshire Pudding, Lobster Tails, Restuffed Baked Potatoes, Tossed Salad, Jello Salad, Green Beans Almandine, Baked Ham, Pasta and Meatballs, Rolls, Cookies and Desserts. LOL Cost a small fortune but it's Christmas.

Now the challenge of cleaning all that table linen, white mind you.
