Last chance to change my mind: Aga Legacy 36 or Ilve?
Comments (23)Looks-wise, of the two under consideration, I'm thinking the AGA. I know the O and M is later, but I think it's better to go later than earlier, if right on the date doesn't work. Houses do evolve. I never calibrated or worried about BTUs when I had the O and Ms. The people who refurbished them had them set up with 3/4" gas lines and they had POWER. None of this was my doing. Coincidentally, I believe all three were the same model and had the grill-a-vator (sp?) broiler. I've not felt anything as solid, except for a real La Cornue. However, I do understand your thinking about this. I have one question: How often do you think you would use a rotisserie? I regret not having thought of this in my own kitchen. Is a rotisserie worth giving up the look you want? This post was edited by kitchendetective on Fri, Mar 1, 13 at 11:56...See MoreHelp! Last chance to change plan: Is 15x20 grt. room big enough
Comments (17)A lot of public spaces-- churches, hotel atriums, etc.-- are taller than they are wide, so I don't see this as being an issue. Once you become accostomed to a space the overheads seem normal [which of course argues that they are a poor way to spend your dollars...] My own living space [not really a great room since its seperated from the kitchen by the dining room, and not really 'open' to it, since there's only a 6ft pass-through] is 18.5x26, top of vaulted ceiling raises to 23 feet. But the stairs raise through the middle of the space, and the similar sized office loft overlooks it. We're still building, but this space makes me very happy: just walking in seems like an event. It's gracious without being grand, which is just what I wanted. There's a log column in the center that combines with a multitude of windows to make it feel more like a forest than a cave. It's my very favorite thing about the house so far. But: I wish it were a bit wider. I'm putting the furniture far enough out from the wall that one can walk [comfortably] behind it to access the front door, etc., and this would work better if it were 20 or 22 wide. Too late now! My point is this: calculate just where the furniture is going, and how the traffic will flow. Depending on how you decorate, your functional space may well be only 12 wide instead of 15. Now is the time to address this, and your builder should be able to give you some guidance about the cost differences....See MoreShould I change my vision for the love of one item?
Comments (42)Sweeby, I could give you a big hug! I think you are absolutely right-- especially in my room, the table will fade into the background. In fact, I knew that all along but it never clicked-- that is why I didnt buy the French Heritage table I fell in love with last summer when Parma ordered hers. My room wouldnt do it justice.. it doesnt have the view or space to showcase it. What IS important to me is that the table is round and works well (rather than against) the other elements-- that explains why I am all over th place. Painted, copper, even mission tables have been on my list-- the only common threads are old/old looking, round, european-ish. Thank you .. I have more focus now and it really makes sense given my decision earlier today-- I am going to order the chandelier and maybe paint before I get the table. I think it will make a big difference and will give me time to decide on a table. I love the chairs with rush seats-- I could even use those with my current table. I dont see anything like them on our local CL but I will watch ebay and the consignment stores. (sorry if i am babbling and not making sense-- it's been a long day and I wanted to be sure to respond because your post was really helpful to me. )...See MorePlease Help - Should I have them change these?
Comments (25)Caryscott, it's not a matter of them trying to give her more. It's a matter of them trying to give her something she didn't want and then making her feel funny about changing it to what she actually wanted. When three people are telling you it's fine, it makes it more difficult to say that you would like it changed to how you originally ordered it. It's much easier to give in and accept what you don't really want. Don't forget, she is paying them. They are not doing her any favors by giving her some added benefit. It sounds to me like they are trying to make it easier on themselves rather than fix an obvious mistake that she was very clear about when ordering. What would be more costly and time consuming would be to fix it now after the fact (which apparently the cabinet company has offered to do). Maybe they really think it looks fine, but since they know it's a mistake and they know she is not happy with it, they shouldn't make her "feel so alone in all this."...See MoreCarrie B
