Marble topped pedestal table - what color for base?
Comments (12)My grandfather had one like that that was kind of a mixture of a gold and silver color, but it had an acanthus detail on the pedestal, and the top was removable so that you could carry it around as a serving tray. I repainted it and eventually threw it out a couple of years ago because it was no longer really salvageable. My vote is to keep it gold for now because you may like it later. It would also look good if it were ebonized with gold trim on the detailed areas (I had my grandfather's Baker end tables redone several years ago and the guy redid the ebonized part and gold leaf, and they came out great)....See MorePart II of my LR - a new table & lamp choices
Comments (32)yayagal - you will have to let me know how you like the lamp. I am still considering it, altho, I think I'd prefer a ceramic lamp. This search has been very frustrating and way too time consuming. I was in Target today to pick up a few things and took a quick look at lamps. I came home with what I think is a good size and shape, but I am not crazy about the color. It is a mustard color, despite what it looks like in the pictures I am attaching. Any thoughts on this lamp? BTW, neither of the shades I used in the pictures are exactly right. Both are shades from other lamps here at home. with flash -- the color is showing a little brighter than IRL, but it is a mustard color without the flash -- if the color IRL was more like this, I could live with it, but it's not My favorite is still the 4th one I posted yesterday at 19:06, but it's been years since I found it on line and still can't find it anywhere....See MoreMy new/old $1575, no $341 eBay brass & glass table is here!
Comments (17)Hi, les, I really appreciate your opinion. Since my LR is only 10 feet wide, I have to be careful as to what I put in there so it doesn't make it seem even narrower. This table is actually slightly larger in width and depth than the antique wooden trunk I had in there before. Putting something longer in front of the sofa would mean that one would have to walk around it to get through the room. I have 24" on either side of the table, as compared to the length of the sofa. I think that if there are 'rules' to base the table size on, I needed to tweak them a bit given the dimensions of the room, which is 25' long. I didn't want it to appear even longer. I am enjoying the visual of having the room appear more open in width with it there, and being able to see more of my wonderful rug. Believe me, if I had a room with better dimensions, I wouldn't have looked so long for a smaller table to put in there. :-) I also wanted something open and leggy to balance all the wood in the room. Also, when it has an accessory or two on it, I feel it will add weight to the look. Right now it's naked! I bought the covered bowl because it looked like a great piece for $5.99. It may not end up there; I'll try it when it arrives, and if I don't like the look, it won't land there. Those are the chances you take when buying online, but it's different and I'll enjoy it somewhere in the house. I thought of interesting floral arrangements I could do in it when I saw it....See MoreTable bases for breakfast nook and bar-table tops?
Comments (56)Yes... I was originally going to make the tabletop 36"W, but after reading those specs on Arhaus.com I decided to widen it to at least 38" to accommodate the bases. The mounting issue was another thing I tried to discuss with the online "designer" and didn't get any help with. In this picture it looks like there are holes on the top of them, but since my top is 2 cm quartz, I won't be using any screws into it to attach them. The stone fabricator will install the top similar to how they install countertops to cabinet bases, using a special epoxy glue. But I will definitely show these bases to them first to make sure it can be attached properly! As far as other coordinating colors in my home, I am planning on replacing most of the existing fixtures (except wood floors) so I'm basically starting from scratch with the 2 tables in question, the tan leather sofa and 3 kitchen chairs I already have. From there I will decide on barstools, light fixtures, rugs, banquet cushions and other accessories, incorporating an accent color or 2 in some of those. Interesting idea to do the bar table legs in an fun accent color, but I think choosing that now would be putting the cart before the horse! Maybe I'll skip that step for now and keep the existing black legs that are on it (knowing that they will eventually be changed) until I choose my kitchen table base and barstools. Does anyone else think the brass bases might look more (or too) formal than the black ones?...See Morelouislinus
