Refining Kitchen Layout - Help!
Comments (71)I would prefer to have a separate PR and laundry closet, which also gives more options for sink placement (in sena's plans), but it's your preference. I'd also prefer a bathroom door that seals better than a bypass door, because of noises and smells. If I were your guest I'd prefer that option, too. This is what I mean by pantry (oops, that should be laundry--sorry for the confusion) barn door--it would be in the same plane as the basement bump-out, but the track would be above the laundry and the vestibule entry from the basement. And since there should be no embarrassing noises or smells coming from the laundry, the door doesn't need to seal:If it's possible to get a sliding door that matches the PR pocket door, would that help the aesthetics of having two doors on one wall? I don't think it was the issue of having two doors on the same wall--it was the issue of having a bathroom open into the middle of the kitchen, especially with a door that doesn't seal well. At least, that was the issue for me. No problem at all if you ask for clarification--better to figure all this out now, than when the framer is presenting you with the final bill. :)...See MorePantry Pocket Door Pull Choices - Your Thoughts?
Comments (12)Eam - I wandered off to look at other sellers, and found enduring's gorgeous pocket door with Sugatsune edge pull. For our current pocket door, I am very much used to no moving parts. Finish is stainless steel (satin). I love this but also want the pull to match the handle finish Decision made! I culled the finalists and ended up with three oval heights: 4.5, 5.9, and 7". I think I like the shortest best and have ordered it and the 7" in Polished Chrome, which matches my other hardware. Thanks all!...See MoreThoughts on cabinet placement around hood
Comments (62)Jen, what are the tall skinny cabinets to the left of your ovens? Also, regarding the sideways tall cabinet next to the fridge...I wonder if your original design with base cabinets and an upper cabinet and countertop would give you a natural landing spot for your purse, mail, papers, iPhone charging, etc. Do you have another spot this stuff will go? If you want to store glasses and dishes here maybe that original layout would be more useful for that purpose. In our new layout, I'm hoping to relocate all that daily paper clutter to a nearby butlers pantry area (I do NOT want this stuff on my new island!). We have a similar size kitchen and layout as yours....See Morewasher/dryer closet + pullout pantry design--any thoughts?
Comments (7)Thanks so much. FWIW, to the left of the fridge, I want to put the micro in the upper cabinet and the toaster oven below. (so the fridge is scooted to the right. That 6" endcap is for the broom closet, if I can't find another home). But let me re-measure all of that area and see if there is room for the 15" tall cabinet. Always good to revisit. Thank you! The tall shallow pantry cabinet along the bedroom wall--you are astute! I have one there now (5' long) but...even a shorter one at 12" deep would interfere with the flow if we add an island. The current 48" wide aisle could potentially be cut to 42" but then I'd need to lose 6" in the island. (actually, we had debated making the island 4" wider, so I could have storage for books on the W/D side, but decided a 48" aisle might be good. I may still make the island wider). Another issue is that this corridor is in direct view of the front door, so today when I open the door I see that side of that 12" pantry. I'm trying to clean up that sightline and improve the flow. FWIW, I have a 1940 bungalow, so everything is smallish. Thanks so much for all your thoughts. If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them. ;)...See MoreRachel (Zone 7A + wind)
