doorless shower?

Hello. Will be doing a master bath remodel in the near future. I am contemplating doing a corner shower and was wondering what the minimal dimensions that i could have a doorless system? ie: NO GLASS TO CLEAN =) but would not want water to splash everywhere. thanks in advance. the shower would be caddy-cornered if that makes a difference

Sounds chilly to me. They're not trendy by any means, but I love a shower curtain. I'd rather use a shower curtain than squeegee a glass door every day :-)

Make sure you've used an open shower before making you decision. I have never been a fan of open showers. For me, they lack warmth and security.

We have been able to use the walk in shower in our new house for about 2 weeks now; our shower is about 3.5 feet by 6 feet, and the side wall doesn't go all the way to the ceiling - there is about a 1.5 foot gap at the top. Yes, it's cool - we don't get the steamy enclosure experience that we had from our enclosed shower stall at our old house. On the other hand, it's easy to clean without a shower door, and it makes life easier if you ever have physical challenges like a broken leg or major leg surgery. Oh - if you haven't decided on a shower head, I *really* recommend the shower heads on the sliding bar (what are those called?). Dh is taller than I am; the adjustable head allows for the difference in height. When you want to wash the shower stall, or wash a dog (whatever), remove the sprayer and get the water exactly where you want it.

For clarification, using the inspiration photo that you supplied, as you step over the curb and enter the shower, the contractor wants the shower valve and the shower head on the wall to the left? Right at the door opening? If so, have it plumbed the way you want it plumbed, which I'm guessing is with the shower head in the same location that it is in the inspiration photo. And question #2, based on your photo, are they using Oatey shower pan membrane on the walls? And in the niche? I've never seen anything quite...like...that...before...

Just an aside. We had spotting/rime/etc. problems in our bath/shower/dishwasher/sinks for years due to the local hard water. My wife used to change the shower curtain liners about once a year due to the buildups and slimy feel. We moved into our current house, which had a water softener installed, but that was inoperable. I replaced it and most of those water problems went away. In fact, the build up of deposits on the inside of the stainless steel dish washer have disappeared. I understand the draw of a doorless shower, but for those who do not have the room, the softener can substantially reduce deposits, reduce the amount of detergents needed, make you feel cleaner, and help your water heater last longer. Disclaimer---I do not now and have never sold water softeners. And have no stock in a company that does. :-)

How much space do I need for doorless shower?

I hate shower doors, especially keeping them clean! I'm looking for some ideas for a doorless shower. I've seen showers that you walk around a wall to then enter the watering area. How much space do you think I would I need for that? Other ideas?

I was in S Africa and they had a doorless shower at one of the camps. I was always cold in that shower. Not for me.

I had a doorless shower for 20 years, and I was cold every single morning (and I live in a fairly mild climate). We finally remodeled and added a door and I liked it so much better. Now I have a shower curtain on my stall shower and I like it at least as much (admittedly, my DH would prefer a door).

I love the look of them & really wanted one before my inlaws built one in their master & every time I take a shower I'm freezing!!!

Hmm, after reading all these comments I wonder what I'm missing? We've had a doorless shower for over 20 years and I love it. Never noticed being particularly cold or anything. The shower is in a separate room from the vanity/sinks and shares a small room with the toilet. Maybe that's the difference? Or I'm impervious to cold, which is certainly not true.

Same with me. We have a doorless shower, although it does have partial glass walls. Had it for 10 years and never noticed a problem with being chilly. The shower gets turned on, the warm mist starts rising, and everything is comfy. I don't understand why anyone would be cold.

We have a doorless shower similar to kudzu' shut in a smaller room. I have never noticed it being cold. But the house is very tight and the floors are heated, so that might be part of it. No air moves in this house, unless you force it to. In our old house with single pane windows, some uninsulated walls, and forced air heat, it is a totally different story. Even in a warm climate, I think I'd notice if if the air were moving against my wet skin.

my iPad is not letting me edit without back spacing today. That was supposed to be "kudzu's but in a smaller room."

kudzu - What size is your shower? We were trying to think of a different way to do our shower glass so as to save money on doors. Thanks!

The shower is just under 5' wide and is about 7' long, including the space taken up by the bench. The glass panel on the left is 27" and the one on the right is 18".
