Comments (150)Hey everyone! Wow! So much going on here!! Sorry haven't checked in the last few days. Sorry I missed Bingo, been just crazy here. I'll start getting my seeds together to mail :) Here are a couple of recipes I love... RECIPE 1: Lazy Pigs ~1 small to med. cabbage ~1lb hamburger ~2 cans tomato soup ~2 med. onions ~2 cups brown rice Core cabbage, and cut into small pieces. Wash, set aside. Brown 1lb hamburger, reserving drippings to cook diced onions. Cook brown rice according to directions. In a large skillet (I use cast iron) combine cabbage, hamburger, onion, rice and 2 cans of tomato soup. Mix well. Add enough water to cover the top of your mixture. Cook 350, for about 1 1/2 hours. If you wanted to make this quicker, I cook the cabbage on top of the stove for about 20 minutes. Reserving the cabbage liquid to mix with some of my tomato soup. Mix everything together and cook 350degrees for 35minutes. Salt and pepper to taste :) RECIPE 2: Ham and Cheese Roll ~1 pound of ham; Sliced or cubed ~8 oz. of Havarti Cheese with dill, cubed small ~Your easiest dough recipe. Some times I've even used those flaky biscuit tubes (Grands, you need 2 tubes) ~ 1/2 cup peach jam ~ 2 Tbsp. mustard Roll your dough as normal. Like making a pizza. Or place your biscuits together in a 13x9 pan making sure their is no holes in the bottom. Place ham and cheese randomly over your dough bottom. In a bowl mix jam and mustard together using a small whisk. Pour over the ham and cheese, and spread evenly over the dough. Now you can either roll your dough like a stromboli, or if your using biscuits, open the second can and place over the ham and cheese mixture. Bake at 375. For actual rolled dough cook for about 30 minutes. For biscuits cook for about 20 minutes. They will both be golden brown on top. Yummy :) Have a great night!!...See More**** Spring 2015 East Tennessee Plant Swap ****
Comments (40)I hate to get further away from the swap conversation, but I will give you some sources, dcwrites. If you are coming to the swap, you might consider adding it to your wants list on the swap website, because there is a chance someone would have it and be willing to give you some. However, if you are just looking to purchase it.... Sunlight Gardens (in Andersonville, TN) has both plain Conradina verticillata and Conradina verticillata 'Cumberland Snow'. Sunlight Gardens has an excellent Garden Watchdog rating, so you are probably safe mail-ordering from them if you can't go in person. Woodlanders (in Aiken, SC) has plain Conradina verticillata and a fairly good (but not great) Garden Watchdog Rating. Nearly Native Nursery (in Fayetteville, GA) also has plain Conradina verticillata and an absolutely perfect!!! Garden Watchdog rating....See MoreNEW: Winter Sowing Swap 2014-2015
Comments (148)Dem-Pa, I love your pics. I can't wait to see flowers again. Some of my camellias are blooming, so it isn't like I don't have color in the yard, I am just too ready for spring. I know it will arrive here sooner than a lot of other places, I am just not a winter person. After about a month I am ready for spring again. I started about 40 different varieties in ziplock baggies yesterday. Now the waiting begins. I have checked the two wintersow jugs I have already started, but there is no sign of life yet. I have been collecting jugs and bottles of all shapes and sizes. I have a question though, when you cut windows in the jugs, do you let them sit open all winter? I haven't ever done that and wonder with my temperatures fluxuating ( sp) as much as they do if the windows would help. It will be 52 here tonight, but 30 tomorrow night.......See More2015 Seeds & Plants on Sale, Locally? Online Catalog Sales?
Comments (49)Hi defrost…another early bird. :-) I'm adding to my houseplant collection this winter, which is pretty depleted. Some winters, I just have no interest, but this year I do, probably because this summer my garden time was minimal. Right now, I have some succulents that need repotting and I'm looking for decorative, ceramic probably. I'm going to try to find some shallow pots in a small to medium size for now. I have larger ceramic pots, but they seem like the wrong shape and size. By the way, if anyone knows who sells the best houseplants, besides Logee's in CT, because I haven't got time to take a trip there. I usually end up at Russell's and I stay away from Mahoney's, so I'm looking for somewhere new to try....See MoreNicholas C.
