One Civil War Veteran

If you will go to the Virginia Historical Society's website, you can read a little about the remarkable diary, sketches, maps of Robert Knox Sneden, a cartographer for the Union Army. Much of his work was published by the society as "The Eye of the Storm", complete with illustrations Sneden made while serving and as a prisoner at Andersonville.

The man was not only a gifted artist. His words put the reader in his war and in his prison. You will recognize the ongoing realities of profiteering, of human kindness and madness.

Could we one day have no more 'veterans' -- no more of the madness of wars?
