Do they make printer/fax combinations? Yes.

I do use my printer quite a bit for both printing and copying and want color as well as B&W. A color printer uses less ink if you use it often since it doesn't have to use the ink to clean the print heads as often.

I know this might be a silly question, but did you try using the printer? You might also think about playing around with the settings to see if there is another driver that will work with your printer.

Beyond that, everyone makes an "all-in-one" machine. Some include a fax, some just a scanner. C-Net likes the Brother MFC-J4700DW inkjet. Scan,fax, wireless, plus a host of cloud based printing options. Cost of consumables is pretty low, so they say. Sub $100.

As the holidays approach, there should be plenty of good deals. Decide on a few models that you like and then wait for a sale...

Not going to give you any model numbers but I highly recommend Brother Printers for Inkjet, Color Laser or B&W Laser! They are all made in AIO Machines. I currently have 1 Brother AIO Inkjet and 2 Brother Color Laser AIO Printers! Use to have a B&W Brother Laser Printer but sold it once I purchased my first Brother Color Laser AIO!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided to make a second call to Canon today and got a different person and a different answer. He ended up walking me thru installing another driver in my printer and it works fine. I can't believe the first person so definitely told me there were no drivers; it was just outdated. The gentleman I got today was so helpful. I never told him about my experience yesterday, but will comment on both in the e-mail survey they are sending. I am still interested in upgrading to an AIO printer for space reasons, but will have time to do some research now. Thanks again.

You were soooo lucky! I may do the same as I have an older Canon which works find but won't work with Win8. Thanks for writing back.

Jane: like mike, I can't imagine why any canon printer wouldn't have drivers for newer OS. And Canon, and I suppose all the other companies, sell very inexpensive printers that make their money on the ink usage end; $100 or less. Perhaps the fax/phone connection might make them a little more expensive.

I've been very happy with my HP AIO.......does a good job of printing, does not use hogging amounts of ink, which is comparatively inexpensive. I think I paid about $69.00 for the printer, and the ink runs about $35.00 for black and color. The model is HP 3510, but there are a number of them in this price range.

inkjet ink runs about $6,500.00 per gallon. Just be thankful you don't have to buy a gallon at a time.

It's the same reason why Microsoft cuts off updates/support for old Windows versions after a set number of years, why Apple does the same for old OS versions (and even cuts them off from the iTunes store so that apps can't be updated or new ones added ), etc.

Products aren't supported forever, rather only for a fixed period of time. New hardware and software versions aren't necessarily backwards compatible (ie, some can't or don't always work with old components) and so that new drivers might be disproportionately difficult to do. I remember some years ago, the industry standard protocol for scanners changed and i had to buy a new one when I got a new PC.

There have been a number of protocols and standards that have been dropped over the years and replaced, thus orphaning the hardware that uses the standard that's gone out of favor. The end of driver support for new OS's is similar.

I use my printer for printing and copying and printing a lot of photos and graphics for genealogy files. Its an HP all-in-one ink jet using #564 ink cartridges. This model has a 5th cartridge that is photo-black. That improves the photo/graphic output. I am very satisfied with it and currently have printed 7770 pages with it.
