printer question

Husband has W/XP pro with a Hewlit-Packard printer 1210 all-in-one printer, scanner & copier. It's leaving streaks on the pictures. I can't for the life of me find instructions for checking ink levels and cleaning print nozzles. I've gone to control panel and clicked on printer, but so far haven't found anything about those topics. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hmm this is a fairly old printer, HP stopped updating drivers back in 2003 so I would definitely not suggest investing any money in repairs.

You might try setting the print quality higher. My HP besides the 'normal' quality has 'best' and 'photo', I would try the 'best' setting and see if that improves things.

Do you have a program that you used to create a card? If yes...WHAT IS IT??? Or are you using a web site as yet unidentified to create a card? If yes...WHICH WEB SITE??? Are you using only the programs that come with Windows to create your card? If yes....WHICH PROGRAMS??? Are you otherwise able to print other text or pictures yes/no? Which printer??? XP...Vista...Win7...Win8...it WOULD help to know.

With the exception of 'is it a speedy printer' (it is not), the questions you ask depend on your computer software, not the printer. To print an excerpt from an article, I copy and paste it into a word processing document, where I can adjust the font, etc, and print from there. I found this in a google.com search: In IE Browser, go to File--> Page Setup --> in the Page Setup window, have Group box name as "Header and Footer" under this "Footer" text box in text "&u&b&d" will availble. Just remove the "&u" then automatically URL will remove from Bottom of the Printed Page. And this: Go to "File", "Page Setup...", then erase the text in the "Headers and Footers text boxes. (The default for header is &w&bPage &p of &P and for footer &u&b&d if you need to put it back later.

It's the same reason why Microsoft cuts off updates/support for old Windows versions after a set number of years, why Apple does the same for old OS versions (and even cuts them off from the iTunes store so that apps can't be updated or new ones added ), etc. Products aren't supported forever, rather only for a fixed period of time. New hardware and software versions aren't necessarily backwards compatible (ie, some can't or don't always work with old components) and so that new drivers might be disproportionately difficult to do. I remember some years ago, the industry standard protocol for scanners changed and i had to buy a new one when I got a new PC. There have been a number of protocols and standards that have been dropped over the years and replaced, thus orphaning the hardware that uses the standard that's gone out of favor. The end of driver support for new OS's is similar.

Streaking in pictures that you print is often caused by the cartridge head being clogged or the ink starting to run out. Follow the directions below. If that doesn't work, either try a new color cartridge, or chuck the old printer and get a new one. There are a number of good quality printers that retail for about $100.

Sorry for long delay in replying--I only go on line about once a week and missed last week's opportunity.

Hubby solved the problem with a new ink cartridge. It was probably that all along. It was just that I couldn't for the life of me find where to "troubleshoot" that printer. My Lexmarks are so simple even I can do them--lol.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll save them for "next time", as I'm sure there'll be one.
