I disagree with Zep, there's no reason you couldn't use a wireless LAN to communicate with the printer but setting it up might not be easy. What is the manufacturer and model number of the printer? How many computers need to share this printer? What operating system does each have installed? Do each of these computer(s) have a wireless network adapter or have a wired network adapter? If the later, can the router be place in close enough proximity to the computer(s) to run a cable between the router and computer(s)? What manufacturer and model number of router? Usually that information is on a tag on the bottom. If you have multiple computers and a dial-up connection I'm guessing you take turns connecting to the Internet? I mention this because it is possible to share a dial-up connection. Obviously speeds are pretty slow but it's better than waiting.

pk, yes, frustrated is an understatement. Don't like spending so much time on such things that are probably easy. Did a lot of research with no resolve. Printer is hooked up to a desktop; DT hooked up to router. I don't "think" the printer is connected directly to router. Not sure what ethernet is. Laptop works wirelessly to the printer. Laptop is 8 mos old. Was working perfectly fine with printer until this new router was installed the other day. I have not tried plugging the printer directly to laptop. I'll try that in the morning. Brain is fried right now so I'll continue on this quest in the morning since I need the printer for work. Thanks for the help. Wonder if uninstalling the computer software from laptop, then reinstalling it again, will work.

Not sure about the Lexmark, but the wireless HP's have a Network Setup Wizard that is accessed from the front of the printer that works similarly to Windows. You set up an Ad Hoc (without router) network and seek the available networks...it finds the nearest, you select your network (his laptop) and finish. Much easier than it sounds. There should be step by step instructions with screenshots on the CD or in the paper manual. Pam

As long as you don't need to set up file sharing between computers, you simply connect a printer wirelessly to your router. Typically, you'll need to install a new printer on each computer using a cable so that you have the correct driver, then when you can print with the cable plugged in, it's time to unplug the cable and set up the wireless printer connection. It is not difficult and wireless printer manuals (paper or found online) will step you through the entire process. I don't know the specifics of your scanner, but you can connect it via cable to a desktop or laptop that is stationary (near the scanner). At the end of the scanner install, you can choose to share the scanner. The computer that the scanner is installed on will need to remain 'on' for the scanner to be visible and will need to have printer sharing enabled. This setup is a bit more advanced, but certainly not too difficult.
