Whopee! I set up my wireless printer...

I haven't had a workable printer for awhile and I wanted a wireless. Got one on sale, read the directions (which I hate to do) and it works! I printed off the suggestions from you about my sister's Washington trip. And I didn't have to ask Raven! Going to have to play around with it to see all the things it does. Again, thank you. There is so much help and knowledge here.

Good job Pam!

We set up ours too a while ago. DH and I both have laptops that are configured with it. I can print no problem but for some reason when I scan a document, it gets sent to DH's laptop instead of mine. No idea how to fix that one.

I have been wanting a wireless printer for awhile but hesitate to get one because I know I'll have problems. Which one did you get Pam? I have a router for the Internet that's hardwired to my desktop computer and then DH has a laptop that he can get on the net wirelessly from this router. Will there be any problems with a wireless printer and the wireless router?

Thanks for the info. I'm still not real clear what I have and what I need, however. I looked up my device manager in my new computer and found Marvell Yukon 88E8039 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. Is this the ethernet connection on the back of the computer or something else? If I do not have WIFI capability and it would take returning my computer to the geek squad to have a card installed, would USB adapter not work instead? Is it your opinion that this is not reliable or exceptable? The laptop is WIFI ready so it is not a problem for that computer. Is there anything else other than the router that I would need for the laptop? On a related note, would it make more sense for me to hard wire all of the stationary computers(hence running ethernet wires all over) and just setting the laptop up for wireless? I appreciate the time you have taken to educate me! Its been a while since I have taken time to read up on technology and now I'm in a time crunch.

That is what I've already done. It's what I mean when I said I didn't find any help from help and support. I try to get this fixed, get frustrated and shut down. When I try again, I've forgotten what I've done, so I do it again. I've done all those steps many times. I'm surprised that getting a router to work, setting up the home network, has been so difficult. Many pages of instructions printed out, many hand written, which is difficult for me. Have laptop accessing internet, which is good. Am just trying to share the printer that is plugged into home computer with XP. If this is not possible, I wish someone would tell me and I can go on to something else. I have no formal training on computers. Still a lot I see on here that I have no idea what is it, what it does, but I can read it. Like reading the "services" in control panel. I've been trying to get this to work for several weeks. I just noticed in sharing and network, that it only shows the laptop(Vista) router and internet. Then I hit "map network" and did not get the home (XP) computer to show. Have used or performed all steps shown in Vista to get this to work and it does not. HP website states that my old psc 950 driver is already installed onto Vista. I don't know what to do next. I'm frazzled. Thanks bob414 for the suggestion.

Great news! so simple when you know what to look for. I have posted the instructions in case another user has a similar issue. Windows 7 and Vista From the Start menu, select Control Panel, or Settings and then Control Panel.Double-click Network and Sharing Center. From the list of tasks on the left, click Change adapter settings (in Windows 7), or Manage network connections (in Vista). For a wired network connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties. For a wireless network connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties. From the Networking tab, click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), make sure it is checked, and then click Properties. Click Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and then click OK. Windows XP From the Start menu, select Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. For a wired network connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties. For a wireless network connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties. Thank you so much for the input, but I finally gave up fighting this thing every time there's a power interruption and bought a USB cable...hooked it up...and I'm good to go. No more stressing out...and running to the other end of the house just to print something! The other computer is really slow and takes forever and a year to fire up to use it's wired printer. Thanks anyway. I really do appreciate so many suggestions! ~Sandy~

Good for you! Isn't it a feeling of accomplishment? I just fixed a stuck key on my laptop and you'd have thought I found the answer for world peace.

We have a wireless router connected to the modem, and an old desktop PC was configured the modem. The laptops, tablets and printers all connect thru the wireless router that connects to the modem.

I love this place... people who understand! the answer for world peace, ha!ha!..I bought Kodak ESP Office 2100 series. It was on sale at Staples for $89.00 but we did spend $32.00 on ink as per advice from clerk. The printer comes with ink cartridges, but apparently only a little. It copies and scans and also has a fax (which is beyond my needs and capability). I just copied an old photo from 1951. It was so easy, I couldn't believe it. Does lots more. Maybe someday I will be able to follow Joanne's directions and post a photo!

PAM.. a quick word of advice about Kodak Printers...If you plan to print photos make sure you get genuine Kodak photo paper. The reason is because the Kodak Photo paper has a bar code type system printed on the backside of the paper and as it feeds the paper into the printer it automatically tells the printhead what type & grade of paper your using so it can adjust the ink output correctly.

If you buy your photo paper at Walmart the price of the Kodak paper is about the same as the price of the HP paper, but I can assure you, you will see a total differenec in the quality of the output photos.

Also, for buying ink cartridges check ebay..At Staples a 10C color cartridge for my printer is $32 and its about $27 at Walmart, but I buy two packs of genuine new Kodak 10c cartridges on ebay for $23 to $25 with free S&H.

Here is another trick..do not buy 5x7 photo paper. You can print a 5x7 horizontally across the top of a sheet of 8x10 or 8.5 x 11 paper, then input that sheet again, with the black end first and you can get a second 5x7 on the same sheet.

I got my Kodak printer 2.5 yrs ago, and the first time I printed a photo on it I was blown away. The output quality was better than what I was getting at the Walmart or CVS photo centers with their commercial printers and according to Kodak their printers use Dye's instead of ink and the photos are archive quality which won't fade like many other printers do. All I know is I have about 50 prints that I printed with my machine hanging on my living room wall where they get full sunlight every afternoon and there is no sign of fading on any of them.

woo hoo and good for you!!!

for those that have a wireless router if you get a printer that is network capable you can just plug the ethernet cable from the printer into your router and can use it on all the computers or laptos etc that you use on your wireless network.
With a wireless printer you do not have to have any cable connected to the router it uses the wireless router just as your laptops and stuff do.
The thing to consider between the 2 types is if your printer will be fairly close to your router if so then you would be able to run that cable if not then you would definitely want to go totally wireless. There is generally a bit of a price difference in the 2 types.

We have the HP Photosmart Plus and we love it. It is wireless and works on our desktop computer and hubbies laptop. Does a great job printing. Our son bought it for me for my birthday. He found it priced anywhere from $169.00 to $79.00 so be sure and shop around. Also buy the 3X cartridges. Ours lasted almost a year. I though I would save and buy the cheaper ones. They barely lasted 2 months.
We sure would hate to be without our printer..
