I need help with my tiny galley kitchen layout! Please advise!
Comments (5)I'm not sure about putting a range under the window. That seems like a recipe for goop and splatter on the window, and also seems likely that, assuming you live in an area with winters, your window is liable to crack/shatter with the temperature extremes of hot from the range vs cold outside. I had that happen in my house when I first moved in, actually, and it didn't even have a range under it, just a sink! So, I'd imagine it being a high risk event with a serious heat source under a window. I think it'd be a lot easier to figure out a good layout with the right side of the diagram filled in. Can you repost a diagram showing what is over there? That way, folks can see traffic flow and imagine any options for that end of the area....See MorePlease help with odd layout. I'm totally out of ideas (and my mind)
Comments (8)You've done nice work so far. The kitchen is beautiful and so is the floor. I just have a couple of comments. I think your current seating arrangement is as good as it's going to get. I wouldn't buy a loveseat if you can fit two sofas instead. Put a sofa table behind the one facing the TV to will help to define the entrance. Square the TV cabinet up to the wall. Then either put the TV on a swivel or on an articulating arm to adjust for viewing. I like whitewashed fireplaces, so I would start there. You can always paint it if you don't like it, but you can't go the other way. As for style and color, save your favorite rooms in your living room ideabook. I see you already have two, both neutral, both transitional. Try to identify what it is about each room that you like. You will eventually either get a clear vision for the space...or be totally confused and run back here screaming and we'll help you sort it out. ;-)...See MoreI need help finishing my open layout living space!!!
Comments (6)I don’t have opinions on all your questions but I do think the stone coffee tables are too flash, and wood is the way to go. I think you don’t need a dining room rug. It helps keep the space feeling airy to have the bare floor. Get a simple console. Maybe you‘ll want to reupholster your dining chairs someday, but I see no need to replace the whole set. Get rid of the torch floor lamp. If you want art upstairs put a big piece on wall of the upstairs hallway. Don’t put it on the overhang between the windows and the mezzanine. I never like gray, but that’s up to you. I like the present color of your rooms. I tend to like to do something unexpected and unique in decor, so I would be thinking about painting a slightly different color (or wallpapering) that one part of the ceiling that is the underside of the mezzanine balcony. In the end, I might decide against it. But it’s tempting to wonder what might be interesting and pretty as an accent...See MoreHelp!! I need ideas for furniture layout for this oddly shaped room
Comments (12)Can you take a photo of the wall that has the stairs…the one people believe will be able to accommodate a huge TV for your family? This is a young family who has tried to create some storage for their young children by building the storage beside the fireplace. Perhaps you can add an additional shelf area above the book shelves that have been created, as Beverly has suggested? But, that said, it isn’t necessary to do so. The idea of a long sofa against the bay window is a lovely one. A large open area with a few chairs (swivel), an ottoman coffee table, space for children to play…. Imperatives for a young family!...See Moredesertsteph
