I always wanted to invent a heated mouse. Just for this reason. Our current home isn't nearly as cold and drafty as the last one, and my mac is located against an interior wall now rather than a window, so I don't have to make those trips to the faucet for warm water anymore.

My office at work is freezing during the winter and I can't do anything about it. Thankfully I do mostly typing there -- very little mousing.

Your title really intrigued me!

I have never had that problem, so I cant really offer any advice, just to take a break from the mouse and move your fingers around to get the warm blood circulating. The problem I encountered when I first got my Wii was I wasnt blinking enough when playing, love Mario and Luigi, so I had really dry eyes! I had to intentionally learn to blink when playing...lol.

HA! I knew immediately what you meant - I have the same problem! No answer for you, though. When it bothers me enough I stop. If the fan on my laptop was placed better, the warm air would blow on my hand...... now that's a design change to think about!

warm products for people who are always cold

I have a heated mattress pad and can vouch for its awesomeness....it is hands-down one of the best purchases I have EVER made.

At first I thought this was a Halloween story, either finding a severed mouse's hand or feeling one touch your face.

I've had a cramped mouse hand, a sweaty, sticky mouse hand, but never a cold mouse hand. Now that I have a new MacBook, I'm trying to use the touch pad more, but it's so sensitive I'm sending emails before they're done.

Linelle, it takes time to get used to using the touch pad. I changed over from a desk top computer with a mouse to a laptop and jeez, it definitely took some time to get used to the sensitivity even though you can adjust the touch. Now I just love it.

And I thought this was going to be a thread about inadequate handshakes!

Your hand is being held in the wrong position, try to lie the inner wrist flat for better circulation. Every 15 minutes shake your hands like you were drying nail polish. Do it for a minute or so and your blood circulates better.

Rose, the touch pad on my new MacBook is way too sensitive. I have made every adjustment possible. Sometimes it's like it's reading my mind. I think I'm hovering, and it registers as a click. I'm adjusting.

Your hand does not need to be on the mouse every second. You could plug in a manicure mitten at your desk and intermittently stick your hand inside and warm it up. Read the reviews of this one - people are using them for more than manicures.

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome to me. It's exactly how mine started. Finally had the surgery to relieve it.

It's due to lack of blood circulation. After each use of the mouse drop your hand down into your lap or down to your side. This slight constant movement will keep the proper blood flow and is also good for the nerves that can get pinched from carpal tunnel. Getting a good ergonomic mouse would probably help too. I only use an ergonomic mouse at my desktop. Mine is called the wow pen joy ergonomic vertical mouse. I love it. I have both wired and wireless version.

I got a laugh out of the title curiosity. I did shake a hand recently that could have been described as this!

Annie - I've heard of that before. I hope it's not. After analyzing my hands today, my fingers normally are a little red/pink toward the nails and the cold one did appear a tad more so, and I may have detected a slight blue undertone at one point. Nothing goes numb or hurts. I've never considered going to the Dr. for it since it only seemed to happen in the winter when I was at the computer. I seem to forget about this in warmer months. I need a physical soon and will mention it when I'm at the Dr.

Lkplatow - Thanks for the link! I didn't know they made half that stuff. I'm going to order the USB Heated Mittens. As I crawled into our bed of cold, cotton sheets last night I was wondering if I should try flannel or something heated. Once I get toasty I'm good and I prefer to sleep in a cold room, but getting in and out of bed...brr. My normally warm blooded DH said he's been chilly at night lately. The heated mattress pad could work since the temp is adjustable on both sides.

Yaya - That's how my current set up is. I do shake out my hand at times or rub the back of it. I'll try for a longer period of time. Once the hand gets cold it seems to pretty much stay like that.

Graywings - I must be mouse scroller and clicker happy. I'm going to order one of those too, thanks! I read reviews for almost everything I can so I'm happy to see it's helping others.

Dedtired - Oh, I hope that's not the case. Wouldn't it happen in all the seasons though?

If you've never experienced it before you might be thinking it really doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's incredibly annoying. On a scale of 1-10 annoying I'm going with a 7.5-8 lately. My hand hasn't been completely warm most of the day. Once it gets cold it seems to pretty much stay that way if I'm busy doing other things and can't baby/bundle it.

Well, I'm off to run my hand under warm water!

I just remembered I have a pro paraffin wax machine in the attic. I'm going to dig it out.

Try iodine drops. They cured my carpal tunnel symptoms, which had been going on for years. Cheap and effective.

The title pulled me in! And YES, I'm always cold except for July and August when I am way too hot. I had to turn the mattress pad to 2 the other night just to get to sleep and it's not even winter yet. I will be getting a heated mouse. I had no idea there was such a thing. Last year I brought in a heat lamp from the barn. I put a regular old fashioned 60 watt bulb in it and clamped it under my desk. It kept the knee hole warm enough that my feet weren't cold. I was thinking I would rig something similar for my mouse hand this year. Except in summer I don't seem to be able to have warm hands no matter what I do. I also think that's why I can't grow fingernails in winter but have vampire nails in summer. I'm also thinking of heated gloves this year.

Edited to say I read the reviews at amazon and now I think I would prefer this one. I do about equal typing and mousing so the in and out might be a pain.

I will say that I have used one of those little square ceramic disk heaters under my desk for years (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Compact-Ceramic-Heater-Thermostat/dp/B000V50GI0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1446469772&sr=8-9&keywords=ceramic+heater) -- since I worked in an office under an airvent that was always blowing freezing cold air on me. I love it -- it is awesomely toasty. My current one is starting to wear out (the dial that turns it off/on is not working right anymore) and I'm going to have to get another one! But this one has lasted 10 years or so so I can't complain. I work from home now and don't notice much difference in the electric bill so it must be pretty efficient too. (Also, it warms you up so quickly that you don't need to leave it on all the time.)

I have some fingerless mittens and also have bought fingerless gloves for 2 of my kids- it's great if you keep a room (or the upstairs) very cool in the winter of if you're outside and want some more finger dexterity- like when dog training outside!

llbean has(had?) great fingerless gloves- one of my kids wore them all the time when renting a house that had terrible heating in the upstairs bedroom- where the computer stayed... another liked them best for driving!

I thought "cold mouse hand" was a paint color! I second the fingerless gloves, I use them. Both of my hands get cold in the winter.
