Your Most Beautiful Rose Garden View
Comments (37)I better answer desertgarden's question before she sets off another nervous round of questions! Her computer is behaving like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory! LOL Desert and Ingrid--the bright pink rose on right side of second pic is (drum rolllllllllllll)--Earth Song. And that is after I moved her 3 times! I think she likes that spot--and everybody always notices her there and asks for her name. Good shrub, good disease-resistance. nana, thanks for your comments on the cottage look. That's what I was trying for, but I'm not always sure everybody views it the same as I do. As to the "deep gold orange rose in the last photo"--that is my beloved Molineux, and in real life, those are apricot highlights, not orange. Actually it is 3 Molineux planted close together (18 inches apart, in a triangle) to look like one big full lush bush. Makes a stronger statement that way. Another good rose, with good disease-resistance. Ingrid, glad you like the birdbath ensemble out in front of the house. My front yard is so heavily shaded with big maples (and their roots spread everywhere) that I can't grow much out in front. That birdbath spot is one of the few spots that gets enough sunlight (later in the day) that I can get by with growing those tough Home Run bushes out there. That pic was several years ago--the roses there are bigger and fuller now. Here is a pic from last year--just of the roses along the property line. Somehow I haven't gotten around to taking pics this year yet. Home Run Kate...See More2009 five most delicious maters
Comments (30)Catman, "NARX" doesn't stand a chance in "reoccurring mention" as only one person posting here has ever grown it. LOL! If Tom Trees were to post, that would make TWO ... since Tom and Ray are the only two growers who refer to the tomato as "NARX." In other words, don't count my picture of Brandywine x NAR as "NARX" since my picture is of the F1 tomato and Ray would have to be growing a subsequent generation from that. But I'm sure it's a great tomato! Not stable enough to depend on 100% repeat of a previous performance though. In fact, I have 20 seedlings of Brandywine x Neves Azorean Red (F4-Red-PL large fruited version) sitting right here on my desk, and I'm seeing a bit of variation in the leaf shapes between the seedlings with three sets of true leaves. I have a couple dozen other seedlings of various siblings under lights on the table to my left, each with more variations of leaf forms, etc. And over the past 3 generations (F2, F3 and now F4), I have seed some radical differences in fruit size, fruit shape, leaf forms, vine heights, internode spacing, fruit set, days to maturity, etc. Been real interesting. Looking forward to stabilizing several lines of BWxNAR and hope everyone is enjoying their current runs ... regardless of what they call it....See MoreWhat's your fastest and most delicious dish this year?
Comments (38)Tricia, my heart aches for your loss and that of the other Newtown parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, and friends. Strawberry, thanks for posting in memory of Charlotte. Here is my "go-to" comfort food which was passed down from my mother, herself a dedicated sixth grade school teacher (who, when the Memphis school bus companies refused to pick up the school children one afternoon in the wake of violence and tensions surrounding the assassination of MLK, personally drove students to their homes - right into the housing projects as close to their door as she could get, when needed, even when one of her students warned her to simply drop her off a long way away.) Tuna Casserole: Boil 12 oz. of wide egg noodles for 7 minutes. Meanwhile, throw together 2 cans of drained tuna in water, 1-2 cans of cream of mushroom soup - with 1/3 can of milk. Place a bit of the sauce in an 11 x 7 casserole dish, add the drained noodles, and pour the rest of the mixture on top. Top with shredded cheddar to taste (I use most of a two cup pkg.) Bake at 325 for 25 min. I serve with black-eyed peas and a toss salad. Kids and adults usually rave over this simple dish. Comments (269)Carol, Eglantyne is sooo ruffly and a great bloomer! Eglanryne will probably bloom all summer for you same as me because we dont get as hot as Diane’s summers. Diane’s Evelyn is a beauty! Can’t wait to see Evelyn in my garden! You will love them both!!!. i am sure you can find some Austin supplier, hopefully from Phoenix P. Rain water does do well on roses! They love that soft ”no chenicals,” water. Maybe you need a water softener on your hose? Is your water usually ”hard?” D Austins are supposed to bloom more than most rosess-they are shrub roses w/ abundant blooms. I have DAs: PAoK, Anne Bolyne, Desdemona, Harlow Carr, Munstead W., Eglantyne, Abe, Princess Anne, Lich. Angel, B Cadfael, Mary Rose, Heritage, Strawberry Hill, James Galway, & Mayflower and they all bloom constantly. Mary Rose blooms the most, but a few are too new to show their stuff much, yet. I ordered Evelyn, Emily Bronte, Eutacia Vye, Roald Dahl, Silas Marner, Queen of Sweden-we will see how they perform. Carol, Could Straw ship Austin roses to you? I suppose you both wouod deal with shipping fliwers border certification....See MoreEricaBraun
