Wet conditions adversely affected the taste of my smaller tomatoes in zone 5. The ones that had the best flavor were

I only grew 2 red tomatoes successfully last year. Amish Paste and
Box Car Willie. Both were good, but Amish Paste I liked better
because it was a little sweet. All new ones this year.

Surprised I don't see this one on peoples' favorite lists very often. I've grown it the last several years and am always blown away by it's taste.

My most flavorful was Earl's Faux. (Only medium size but fantastic flavor)

Early Girl (dependable, early and great taste when fully ripe.....lasts until frost)

Carbon (great in all respects)

Azorean Red (great in all respects)

Supersteak (very nice)

Hillbilly (excellent)

That's six. Am planting those again this year, along with Mazarini, German Head, Dr. Lyle, and Dutchman.

I add powdered lime to the soil to prevent BER.

Looks to me like Indian Stripe is the most popular so far. I grew it last year and am growing it now. Good tomato, a little on the sweet side for my preference but the flavor is superb.

Great summer picnic recipe. Easy, makes a lot, nobody else brings it but everybody wants the recipe. It's like crack! Bunch of junkies!

"NARX" doesn't stand a chance in "reoccurring mention" as only one person posting here has ever grown it. LOL! If Tom Trees were to post, that would make TWO ... since Tom and Ray are the only two growers who refer to the tomato as "NARX." In other words, don't count my picture of Brandywine x NAR as "NARX" since my picture is of the F1 tomato and Ray would have to be growing a subsequent generation from that.

But I'm sure it's a great tomato! Not stable enough to depend on 100% repeat of a previous performance though. In fact, I have 20 seedlings of Brandywine x Neves Azorean Red (F4-Red-PL large fruited version) sitting right here on my desk, and I'm seeing a bit of variation in the leaf shapes between the seedlings with three sets of true leaves. I have a couple dozen other seedlings of various siblings under lights on the table to my left, each with more variations of leaf forms, etc.

And over the past 3 generations (F2, F3 and now F4), I have seed some radical differences in fruit size, fruit shape, leaf forms, vine heights, internode spacing, fruit set, days to maturity, etc. Been real interesting. Looking forward to stabilizing several lines of BWxNAR and hope everyone is enjoying their current runs ... regardless of what they call it.

Ananas Noir was my hands down favorite...and saved seed sprang up beautifully this year.

Next was Brandywine Pink...A very close second for taste, but not nearly as productive.

Trailing behind would probably be Cherokee Purple, Paul Robeson, and Mariana's Peace. Mariana I'm giving another shot this year because her garden spot wasn't really prime, and I think she's got more potential than I saw last year. But the rest of the third placers (and several others) I'm not replanting this year in favor of different heirloom varieties. So many to try!!

I am so excited to try Ananas noir this year!
