Sweetbay Magnolia and pH

we recently cut down our bradford pear that came with our house...it was leaning and also because its invasive here......but anyway we would like to replace it with a sweetbay magnolia...now the pH where I live in neutral or possibly even a little basic...never got an official soil test but I can't grow blueberries, american chestnuts, azalea, or rhodies (tried but they all turned yellow). I know in their natural habitat they seem to prefer acidic soil. Would it be ok growing in a neutral pH soil? The cultivar I am looking at getting is 'Henry Hicks'. I am in zone 6b PA.
