Agree, Jackie, but I feel that way about bush and climber. Most of you can see these roses in person before buying, but here in Florida, there are precious few places that have antique rose gardens. Those that do obviously don't have them all. It's wonderful when everyone posts (to use Camp's favorite phrase) bush shots.

...I wouldn't disagree with that, I also like to see the whole picture, however it requires a long distance or wide angle shot, and this for some of us might not be practical for privacy reasons...

..now, many of my photos might be hardly relevant to a mostly North American audience, but even so, I prefer to be careful what I photo, even with bush roses, as I have neighbours, their vehicles, house no.'s...all close by, that I wouldn't want to get in the frame, it wouldn't be fair on them, nor my own... I have 2 climbers on my front wall, and if I took a wide angle shot, it would get my house number in and I wouldn't be happy with that, even on an obscure far away forum such as this...

...so I wonder if these considerations might also apply to many others out there....

Marlorena - I am an ignoramus about computers, but I have a Mac,and the iphoto thingy lets you "delete" unwanted stuff like dead roses in a pic - it would work as well on house numbers, etc.

aww... that's all new to me Jackie, I've no idea how to do that sort of thing... it does sound like a bit of faffing around.... I suppose one could stick something over a house no. or some other revealing detail, but it's more neighbouring properties I consider... it's hard to block them out really when you're hemmed in a bit, as I am here, at least on 3 sides...

...however, I have found by using some editing programme I have, can't remember what it's called... I can edit a photo to remove black spots on rose leaves.... not that I would dream of doing such a thing of course...

With Google, anyone can pull up streets, addresses, even cars and people walking going down a street or walking in a yard, so it's something I consider pointless to worry about in this day and age.

Jackie, I would like more shots of the entire plant on HMF too, both climbers and shrubs. I hadn't considered privacy as a possible reason, I'd assumed it was because it's much easier to get a good shot of a bloom than the whole plant. Well, that's certainly the case with me, as taking a wider shot shows weeds, bare earth, the water tank or my neighbour's horrible black shade cloth!

floridarose...I think that's all the more reason why I would worry about it, less so for myself but especially considering my neighbours, who don't ask to be in my photos...

These other considerations are to be respected, but I agree with Jackie. The whole plant is important to me, always. Photos of flowers simply don't give enough information, or convey the beauty of a rose if that is the intention.

Tuderte - that is a great example of how valuable pictures of the entire bush are! Folks have been mentioning on here for years & years how much larger Austins get in warm climates (some of them - others less) than advertised, but posting a picture like yours really gets it across.

I too am in zone 9a. It would also be useful to see full bush shots of OGR's too.

It's actually a very floriferous rose and I love the strong perfume (I know a lot of people aren't fond of the myrrh scent but I'm not one of them). It has vicious prickles and lots of them. It's also very easy to grow from cuttings. I've planted a group of five (cuttings) together in the middle of an empty space near my vegetable garden - I'm going to attempt to prune them into one enormous mound. At least they're planted where they won't interfere with anyone or anything - these plants are just over 12 months old -

We really need to post more full plant shots of everything. They can tell you a great deal about a roses growth habits.
