how many hours/week does your housekeeper work?
Comments (19)Hello. Respectfully, So coming from a housekeeper who has worked for 7 years now and is certified , yes it would take 6 to 7 hours, all those people saying it is not going to take that long is inaccurate, I do not clean homes for some the suggestions I am seeing as comments, take those with a grain of salt look at her workflow and then you look at her attention to detail ! And for the person who recommended finding ANY task for her to do so you can spend time with your son and see if she will help, I wouldn't recommend that unless you have told her upfront about any additional tasks upon hire otherwise you wont have a Housekeeper to help you when you move to a larger house in the fall. Clear expectations is key, building that relationship is key. Yes your home is small, but if you also have clutter that has to be moved and dusted, and then sanitized AND disinfected- allows for good quality control to ensure your items stay clean week after week and and they put them back in the appropriate places, you want her to do laundry because you dont feel like it then that is something specifically that needs attention and care depending on how much laundry you have, if you have a certain way you want it put away and giving it the proper time to dry other wise in 5 hours or less in addition to cleaning you will be getting back wrinkled laundry or laundry not washed or dried properly and that will be a problem and she has to figure out where your things are, moving furniture to clean behind them and around them and put them back, and anything else you would like done must be told upfront not after they have begun cleaning it will cause frustration later down the road when you add more tasks on that she may or may not been hired for. Those hours are sufficient because she is a first time Housekeeper in YOUR home unless you personally know her it will take that much time starting out to get your home organized as possible and then the transition for her will be smooth and she will stay longer in the future, especially if you plan on moving to a bigger home, those hours are a good foundation to build from in your next home. They will look at that if the house is larger, I am sure you wouldnt expect less time for let's say a farm house with 3 to 4 bedrooms and a sun porch that needs cleaning or an entire deck or patio that wraps around the house. The size of a house never determines the QUALITY of work you will receive if a person is focusing continuously on the quantity of the homes items. Just some tips to help you. God bless and take care....See MoreHow do you know when it's time?
Comments (13)Personal decision, oh yes.. TOUGH.. OH YES! I was in that situation 5 months ago for the first time with my 12 year old cat and could not make the decision in time. He passed away just a few hours before the scheduled euthanasia, and it was NOT peaceful, after spending the whole night in my lap. We are now dealing with a cat with advanced CRF condition and A BAD leg .. this is why I am curious about your cat. Our cat started limping almost a year ago!! (left hind leg), quickly went to a plantigrade walk, and never recovered from that. He has NO feeling in that leg, and no muscles left either. It was heartbreaking to see him 'hobble along' as you say, and still is, but he manages to get around.. jump in his basket.. etc. He still can jump to about 1 foot (a little more, maybe). We have set up many special places in the house just for him. I also think it started with some calcification in his spine (next to tail) that pinched a nerve, hence the loss of his leg. I also suspect vaccinations as he limped badly from that leg a year before it all started (after a rabies shot). Anyway, more recent X-rays showed a growth in his pelvic area-osteosarcoma (vet diagnosis) And there have been days when there would be nothing at all in the litter box, and i realized how odd it is for me to be delighted to have pee or poop to scoop. I've been taking her little "accidents" ... boy, I can so relate to that!! Two things I might suggest. 1. Don't know what cat sand you use, but I replaced the clay dusty one (Cat's Pride) by a paper one: first just shredded newspaper, then yesterday's news and he seems to prefer that. It is much more absorbent and probably softer to him. He has had VERY, very few accidents since. I have also placed them closer to where he likes to spend time, so he does not have to go too far when he has an urge. Due to his kidney condition, he does urinate a lot and often. If your cat has FLUTI, he might prefer a softer litter box.. 2. Laxatone does not do much for constipation. Lactulose might be more effective. Sub-Q fluids would also help a lot. I hope your cat drinks a lot, especially if he is on prednisolone (hope it is not prednisone), otherwise he would be really dehydrated. Has your vet tested his urine?.. very easy and inexpensive test. Please, please.. keep us posted. My heart goes to you and to your very special feline friend. Comments (24)Football- it is honestly so refreshing to see others as disinterested in the game as I am. I live in the Texas panhandle, essentially the birthplace of all the movies and TV shows based around "Friday Night Lights". You may think those shows/movies are exaggerations, but they aren't. NOTHING matters more around here than the local, (oftentimes Podunk) high school football team/s. It is nice to interact with others who are equally unobsesssed with the game. Schick- I'm not gonna lie, that fence is dreadful!!! Drywall screws?!?! Really?!?! What genius came up with that idea?? Remind me again what area of the country you are in? I keep hearing you say this is the best time for outside/attic work and I keep thinking you must be in the desert if it is that unbearable the rest of the year but your outside pics show green!! I'm confused! ;) CEF- don't worry, HGTV has been a guilty pleasure of ours since we got married. Like Doug, we don't have cable so we don't normally watch, but anytime we have stayed in a hotel or a hospital, we have had the channel on HGtv 24/7. We even joke that its a good thing we don't have cable b/c every time we watch those shows, we get inspired to DIY something!! If we actually had cable service, I'm certain our list would grow exponentially. Doug- I can totally relate to the mental imagery comment. There are only 3 rooms in my house that I can walk in to and NOTenvision my future plans/changes/remodels. They are the 2 kids bedrooms and the front/main bathroom. I walk in my bathroom, I invariably start envisioning the future and plan for it, my bedroom, the same. My LR, DR and kitchen all still need finishing details and/or cabinetry to make it work. My pantry, still needs shelving, counters and flooring. My mudroom/laundry room still needs the lockers and command center. The basement (900 sq ft) still needs to be framed up for 2 bedrooms plus a common area and the bathroom needs to be finished. As for me, our 1300 sq ft addition is, apparently a side job for the drywall crew so we are getting squeezed in around the "main jobs". They were here for a few hours Saturday, several hours Sunday, none yesterday and they showed up today around 5ish and worked until 10 or so. That is the living room area, they still need to finish hanging the rock in there and then the entire area needs taping and mudding. I'm glad we hired a crew to do it but at the same time I'm annoyed and almost ready to pick up a knife and some mud and just finish it myself. More than anything though, I'm ready to move away from the perpetual reno I've been living in for a year and a half. (Don't worry CEF, I KNOW you got me beat by a long shot in that area!!)...See MoreWeek 39: How do you handle change IRL?
Comments (75)Leela - the rmt is an acronym for my business. I'm from the Skagit Valley originally, so Mt. Baker and all the North Cascades are my favorite places. In fact, I've never set foot on Mt. Rainier (too crowded), although I have skied at Crystal a few times. TG - Thank you for the anniversary wishes. With wife's birthday falling on the 9th and Valentine's Day and our anniversary falling on the 14th, most years it's all rolled into one. I have success! The second piece of trim with leg for the closet cabinets actually fit this time. Making a second one was a blessing in disguise because I was not completely satisfied with the shape of the leg on the first one and I tweaked it a bit. It looks more pleasing to my eye now. I also got the counter top glued up yesterday and will start sanding and finishing it today (if I can finish my work and stay off GW long enough, that is)....See Moreheatheron40
