Follow up on the bookmark exchange

Friends, I started out to send the address list to all the participants, but it turns out that most of the people do NOT have messaging enabled. And unfortunately I do not have all the email addresses saved from last year. I was able to send messages to Blue Jean Baby, HarborRose PNW, and TwoBigDogs. Also Rouan, of course, since I know her rather well offline! This message is to request that the rest of you please send me your email addresses. My email address is rose folly at gmail dot com, minus the spaces of course.

I have sent out the list to everyone except Phaedosia, Merryworld, and Christine A. I do not yet have email address for the three of you, and you do not have messaging enabled on your Houzz member accounts. Everyone else, you should have a complete address list, also the corrected one if you are Blue Jean Baby, Harbor Rose, Rouan or Two Big Dogs. As soon as I get the rest of the emails I'll send the list to the final three.

I'm doing some traveling over the next couple of weeks so I'll be in and out. If there is a delay in my getting back to you, that would be why. This is not something I would try to do on a smart phone!

Rosefolly, I sent you an email on 10/25 and just messaged you through houzz. I hope that works. I think my messaging is on. Does anyone know how to tell or what to do with the messaging?

I was having a wonderful vacation with my DH :-) Our second (and I hope not last) trip to Vietnam... I did get one bookmark, as a gift for a friend :-) It is made of brass from a workshop that provides employment for handicapped people. A bit expensive for the Christmas Exchange though :-) Hmmmm....you've given me an idea ...

Siobhan, many thanks for taking the trouble to organise this exchange. And thanks to everyone for their many different cards and book marks. I kept mine displayed separately from the other 'family' cards! Is your postal system in chaos/meltdown? (I know the UK one is) some cards arrived from the US within 3 days and others posted on the same day took 3 weeks. ;-( I think Martin's card was possibly lost in the post . . .

THANK YOU friends! When this bookmark exchange began three or four years ago, I bought an small wooden antique chest for my bookmarks. Each year, the collection grows. And every time I start a book, it begins with a search through the chest for the perfect bookmark. EACH one of you has sent me lovely gifts that represent YOU. Each one of you has bookmarks in that wooden chest that are treasured and used regularly. Thank you. Thank you one and all - for your thoughtfulness, your time, your creativity, and for being a part of my reading life. PAM

Merryworld, I got your message and have sent your list to you. That leaves just two of us to go.

Actually most people do not have messaging turned on. I know because I have been checking for this project.

It's not remotely obvious. When another RP member clicks on your profile, in you are enabled if a box with the word "Message" appears on the right hand side of the top banner graphic, right next to the box that says "Follow". Apparently you cannot see your own, at least I did not when I checked mine.

As Martin said, it is very convoluted and not at all transparent. Here is how to do it. You go to "Your Houzz" in the top right. Click on "Settings", then select "Advanced Settings", then go down to "Privacy" near the bottom of the left hand side. That is where you will find the box to enable people to send you messages. Save, and you have it.

Hi Rosefolly, My apologies for the delay in responding. I sent you an email today fr the list and I will certainly enable messaging!

I would just like to say that I have reluctantly decided not to join in this year (the first time I think) as last year it was just too hectic. Working in retail makes Christmas exciting but tiring, but please know I will be thinking of you all.

We'll be thinking of you, too, Astrokath. Wishing you a relaxing holiday after the rush that leads up to it.

By now everyone should have their exchange list. If anyone does not have it yet, please let me know. I've been traveling the past week and I'm just getting back to this today.

Thanks for the snail mail, Rosefolly. Sorry not to check in sooner. By the time things slowed down enough to log in, I couldn't remember my new username/password! Anyway, I am looking forward to the exchange and sure appreciate you heading it up. (Also, I *think* I've set up messaging now--thank you for writing out the steps.)

I accidentally misplaced the list. Could someone please email me the list. My email is 3almeidaboys @ att dot net. Thanks!

Your list is on its way -- check your email.

Friends, I have just received the first bookmark of the year. Phaedosia, thank you! I plan to open them all at the same time so I haven't actually seen it yet.

BTW, I discovered that in my final cut-and-paste I left off one address. I think the only person this happened to has received a correction. Please do check your lists. If you don't have the full thirteen, please let me know.

Sorry I've been MIA, the computer was down for about a month.

Just wanted to check I have the correct list - 13 names, sent 10/24, my name was spelled incorrectly but I am not mailing myself anything.

If that's the final working list I will print it tomorrow and get everything mailed poste haste...

    Thanks,

    Dawn

I've received two so far, Phaedosia and Two Big Dogs, thank you! I put mine in the mail yesterday.

I received the most adorable little penguin yesterday. The hardest part about this bookmark exchange is choosing which bookmark to use next. THANK YOU EVERYONE! Whether it is fancy or purchased or homemade or free or a bubble gum wrapper, every single one is special to me.

Sent mine off this morning! I've received three so far and loved all of them. I love the Christmas cards, too.

I got three today and already had two. I don't know how you determined souls can wait to open all of them together. I tear right into mine. Pam, I got a penguin, too. He's a cutie.

Laggard here. My cards and bookmarks are sitting on the dining room table where they have been for three weeks. We've had houseguests three times and gone away ourselves twice in that period. I will get them in the mail, but probably at the last minute.

Mine haven't been mailed yet either, but I have no such excuse - I'm simply lazy. At least I finally got the bookmarks- now to find cards they fit into!

Mine went in the mail on Saturday. I tried to wait to open them when I received everyone's but I just couldn't wait!

Got mine ready to mail, but I don't have any stamps or much time to go to the Post Office. I will manage, though.

I've received 8 out of the 11 coming and have to say that these bookmarks are simply wonderful.

What a thoughtful and creative group this year !

Merryworld, your card is just adorable.......and I have to ask if you made the Firenze corner marker? It is exquisite.

Thank you all so much for your efforts in this fun swap :0)

I wish I was so talented, Yoyobon. I had a lot of fun searching out bookmarks for the exchange on our trip to Italy this year. The corner markers are from a tiny little shop in Florence that sells the most wonderful paper products. The cards were made by Margaret Fox as a fund raiser for the Welsh Terrier rescue organization WTCares.

Siobhan's Boothbay Harbor marker and Two Big Dogs Cape May card have reminded me of great childhood vacations with my parents. I hope I get to revisit those places soon.

I'm so grateful for everyone's participation. It's become one of the favorite Christmas traditions!

Merryworld, your bookmarks were great. I love travel second only to books.

I am really delighted with all the bookmarks I've received. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I am already looking forward to next year. Thank you all so much. Gean Ann

I have received several bookmarks too and like many of you I couldn't wait to open them. My cards are addressed and stamped and ready to go out in the mail except for one thing... I ordered some bookmarks a couple of weeks ago and still have not received them. I checked the status of my order and they are en route, somewhere between Allentown, PA and here in central NY. The estimated arrival date was yesterday. So... You will get your cards and bookmarks, eventually!

Siobhan, congratulations! I hope you still have time to read the occasional book and keep in touch with us.

Siobhan,. Congratulations! I am so happy for you.

What a nice thing to tell us at Christmas, Siobhan. I wish you every happiness.

Congratulations Siobhan! Such happy news :)

Siobhan, I am delighted to hear your news! Wishing you many years of happiness together.

Thanks again.......everyone.......for all the great bookmarks.

They are all received and each one happily admired !

I have received nine so far, three to go.

    Siobhan,

This news made my day!!!! Wishing you years of happiness and health, books and laughter. That is indeed the most wonderful news. As one who is pushing 50 and a newlywed myself, I can tell you that later marriages are full of the best comforts.

    PAM

Thank you all for your comments and for the bookmarks! As always, this tradition is a big part of my holiday and one that I look forward to with great pleasure. I have opened half of them and I'm saving the other half.

Congratulations, Siobhan!!! And thank you, everyone, for the bookmarks. My daughters and I have so much fun opening them up together.

Congratulations, Siobhan! Wishing you many years of happiness. And to you, too, Pam! I didn't know you were a newlywed. As the Greeks say, "Xronia pola" (many years).

I finally got mine mailed off today, I decided the busiest mailing day of the year was the PERFECT time to go to the Post Office. LOL!!

I had a hard time finding cards the right size, and when I finally did I couldn't choose between 2 designs - so split them 6 & 6 and next year you'll get the other design.

I came home with ( I think) all the bookmarks and am saving them to open on Christmas.

Much happiness, Siobhan, to your and your sweetie. ( and Pam and her new hubby). Hooray for love!

I put the couple leftovers from the bookmark I sent all of you this year away in the cupboard this morning, and discovered a whole stack of the same bookmark from a few years ago! Ack! So that means you all got a duplicate - sorry! I'll try to find a different one next year!

Donnamira, not to worry. I'm sure we'll enjoy them all over again!

I mailed mine out yesterday. I finally got the ones I ordered and hurried home on my lunch break to get them mailed. I have to confess...there are two bookmarks in each card...except one. Even though I thought I had checked each envelope twice somehow I ended up with one leftover bookmark. So my apologies to whomever gets the card with only one bookmark in it!

Maybe that is good luck! A different spin on getting the coin in the cake?

    last modified: 9 years ago

    I like that.

BTW, up to ten now. Donnamira's arrived yesterday. I now have everyone's except for Rouan and Blue Jean Baby.

Roan, I had to laugh, because I was standing in line waiting to get to the mail counter re-checking the cards & envelopes - I am pretty sure I put two bookmarks per card, but I forgot to sign one! Luckily I had time to fix it. I could have sworn I counted right but ended up with leftovers too!

You are all amazing, and I can't wait to use all the bookmarks in 2016 and beyond!

Since I was away for Christmas, I am just opening mine today. Yes, I have them all now. Each so different and so interesting to see. Thanks to everyone who participated.
