Problems with Tide Detergent
Comments (35)Hi Chipshot- After I posted I went and checked my supply of Charlie's liquid and found that I needed some more. I called them and a very helpful gentleman steered me to the powder rather than the liquid. I'm going to give it a whirl. I also bought 3 bottles of the stain remover for my mother, daughter and myself. The Charlie's guy told me to buy some STPP or real TSP from the paint store and put 2-4 TBLSP in with a load of towels for 3-4 washes. He said that the "crunchies" would wash out and from then on I could use vinegar. He thinks that the water out here is harder than usual. The Miele installer ( from my dw) doesn't think so, but I'm willing to give it a whirl. Vinegar alone did nothing. I tried that for over a month with no results. I think you may have something there that DD is using too much detergent. She bought some soap from Melaleuca-- I think it's an Amway type of company. She was supposed to have 80 loads or something and the bottle was almost empty when I saw it. I can't imagine, even with 2 little ones that she did that many loads. I'll try and tell her gently... BTW when she used that detergent the kids clothes didn't smell!...See MoreNew, old Tide....Got another one today!!!
Comments (122)@mamapinky0, P&G Commissioned a household study... where they gave participants (Chlorine) Cascade Gel, and (Enzyme) Cascade Action Pacs to use over two months. None of the participants, noticed a difference between the two formulas, although many did prefer the convenience of the Action Pacs. They also did a separate study, asking participants if they could tell the difference between Electrasol Dishwasher Gel & Chlorinated Cascade Gel. Cascade was preferred over 2 to 1. Many of the participants, just thought Cascade cleaned better... and left everything with less visible spotting. There's a really good reason Cascade Gel was the highest selling Dishwasher Detergent in this country (according to Nielsen Analytics)... until the ban on Phosphates. It worked, and it worked extremely well. The second highest selling dishwasher detergent, was a liquid gel (comparable to Cascade Gel) made by Huish/Sun Products. It contained the same amount of Phosphate, as Cascade... and I think the same chlorine content, just different thickening agents. I'm so glad.. you like the Gel. I was a little worried, it might not work as well, and the STPP could need some adjusting, but I think the 3/4 teaspoon is right on. And... I think it's a phenomenal product, when spiked ;)...See MoreMORE Classic, Original Tide HE powder arrived :)
Comments (52)Elizabeth...I agree about the real original Tide, not much could ever beat that scent, but you will find here many refer to the Tide scent change in the 70's as the original Tide scent. Probably because they are too young to recall the Real original Tide LOL. I have to say...powders can and will decompose over time if they were stored in wet or humid conditions..they can also lose their scent if they are stored in warehouses with no temp control...that being said if you find a box of powder that is free flowing its most likely fine. Store it away from water sources, humidity, and bright light and it should be fine for many many years......P&G is not going to get into all of this other than what the experation date is for various reasons. Like Mich I also have found discontinued detergents/scents more often in pharmacys that are in great new condition. Probably because a pharmacy isn't selling a lot of it so it sits on a shelf in a nice climate controlled store. But let that nice box you find sit in your laundry room on a shelf and not use it, than boom its going to be clumps in a short period of time from the humid room. It all depends on the condition of the powder detergent when you get it and how you store it as to whether its going to still be stable in 10 years....See MoreDeals I've found lately. What deals have you found? Hhhhmmmmmmm.....
Comments (75)I love a good revived thread. :-) My good deals are all from eBay this time. My desktop computer is not quite four years old, but since it gets a lot of use and we believe in "lifecycling" electronics I've been casually looking for a good deal on a somewhat high-end refurbished PC to replace it. Before I found anything, my computer quit. Just refused to turn on. I researched possible causes, and called in my expert: my son. The power supply was a common source of the problem, so I bought one on eBay for $20. Nope, that didn't do it, but we kept the replacement in the computer and held onto the old one as a spare. Next we replaced the motherboard ($70 on eBay). Yes! The computer works fine at this point, but we figured since the hard drive has been spinning all these years, why not replace it--or add another, which is what we did--rather than wait for it to fail? So I bought a 1TB SSD drive on Amazon ($100), and now have a "new computer" for under $200. Also, I've been wanting an L.L. Bean tan canvas "barn jacket" for a long time but was unwilling to pay over $100 for it. Even eBay prices on them aren't usually tempting, but this time I found one for under $20 including shipping. I love it! It really is "like new," and I look forward to wearing it when spring starts to make an appearance. All I need now are olive green "wellies" for our muddy season....See Morebeaglenc
