Yet another white marble question...

I've read up, gone to a few fabricators and suppliers and I'm more confused than ever. Help! I want marble (doesn't everyone). Friend has it, not sure what kind, says it's sealed with a 15 year sealer and no issues. I, however, am messy. So...went to fabricator to look at Quartz. There was a fantastic calacatta look alike....for $180 square foot. Um, no. She also said to me Quartz can scratch (and they had a table that had done that) and scratches can sometimes be buffed out of marble. Now I'm concerned about even quartz. She said quartzite was more durable but over 100 square foot whereas another fabricator said quartzite isn't more durable than the marble at all. What???? Does quartz really scratch? Should I just get marble with a great sealer and try to be a neat freak? I'm at a loss now.
