CA cottage garden in winter (photo-heavy!)
Comments (16)T. urvilleana seems quite a bit tougher than the T. heteromalla (I have both). It definitely likes sun better; the T. heteromalla gets sun-burned with only 2 hrs of sun. I think T. heteromalla is a typical tropical understory plant - it needs bright indirect light and warmth to bloom. Unfortunately it is in one of the coldest spots in the garden, and the chill factor seems to prevent blooming. Citrus and roses have certain similarities - the most obvious is that they are "born hungry". Meyers are the hungriest citrus of all because they bear not only heavily, but when young, whereas most citrus don't bear much until 7 yrs of age. I use any old citrus fertilizer alternated with a custom mix of humic acid/greensand/alfalfa meal, at least 7-12x per year. Twice a year I give a direct shot of liquid iron - just open the bottle and pour, then water it in (or let the rains do it)....See MoreDog hair and lots of it.
Comments (33)pyrmom, Thanks for the link. I think I'll pass on the Furminator for now as there are a lot of tools that do the same job. I have my Shelties professionally groomed every other month. I just need to groom them myself more often in between. Along another line, my dogs are allowed to get up on our bed. The duvet is dark colored (the lesser of two evils) so, of course, it shows a lot of hair. PetsMart sells a large (about 10") adhesive roller that works wonders for getting the hair off. It looks just like the clothers rollers, only larger. I use it on the front of my sofas and chairs where the dogs brush against them. It's easier than getting out the vacuum attachments....See MoreAnyone else dealing with excessive pet shedding?
Comments (29)I bought a Furminator a month ago and love it~~I got the small one (blue handle) since I have two cats, of course the older white cat that sheds the most does not like it but I make her do it! DS used it on the dog she is short haired and she looked better than the last time she went to the groomer. I was taking my white cat to the groomer 2-3X's a year and that helped alot but she meow's so much and is wiggly they do not want her back:( That is from two groomers. The last trip they called early and had me come get her, she is usually the only cat there and she makes the dogs crazy:(...See Morepoodle-lab or poodle-retriever crosses
Comments (48)Our two Mini-labradoodles (2nd generation)have different types of hair from each other. Our female, Andi has wiry hair on her back but her legs, head are soft and wavy/curly. She doesn't shed hair on our clothes or furniture but when you comb her, especially on her thick back fur, you will get it in the comb. Amos, our black male, has more poodle like hair, soft, its wavy to thick curls. We cut his hair about every other week to keep the mats down, which was a real problem when he was swimming this summer. Now it is not such a problem and we let him go a little longer. I do find little curls like on the carpet where he scratches them out, mostly from around his neck or ears. Either that or his sister pulls them out playing! Our breeder did not promise that they wouldn't shed at all, but that there would be less than other breeds like our Brittany. We certainly have less shedding than with either our Brittany or our Cockapoo. Hers was more like fuzz when she shed. He did tell us that they would need combing and that daily would be the best route to go. Luckily, they both love to be combed and its part of our nightly routine while we are on the floor with them. I agree (QQ know this) that they are very sweet, lovable, and smart....See MoreUser
