Anyone else dealing with excessive pet shedding?

Man oh man. I can't believe how much Reilly and Axel (my dogs) are shedding--and it's the middle of February!! I know Reilly is a BIG shedder, but we'll have Axel one year this March and he didn't shed at all last summer, but that was due in part to him acclimating from shelter life to home life, and he had hardly any coat when we rescued him.

Reilly's hair is the worst. I lint my clothes before leaving the house and by the time I get to work, I'm covered again. It's everywhere. I would like to have Reilly "shaved" (cut really short, but not to the skin by any means) this summer, but he's 8 and we've never done it. I don't think Axel has the type of fur that can be cut short.

What do you do to deal with the shedding? I'm worried about dealing with the hair and a newborn in April/May. (Reilly is tan, Axel is black) We think Reilly is a shep/husky/collie type mix and Axel is possibly a border collie/spaniel type mix.
