How do you know that it's not the computer that's having the problem waking up?

Agree with Kudzu, the delay sounds like it could be coming from the PC end. Try connecting the monitor to another PC and see what happens.

Well, to be honest I never even thought of that.

i do not have another Computer at home to try it on, is their another way to test it.

Not really, unless you want to take your computer to a friend's house and connect to their monitor. However, I suspect the problem is either with the computer itself or the sleep settings for the computer. It's not the monitor that goes to sleep, it's the computer that's controlling things.

I have now tried different things, and I think you are all right that the problem is not my monitor but my computer.

So, I went to my setting and instead of having the computer go into sleep mode every 15 min., I set it to 4 ours. But then that night when I turned off my computer, it took about 2-4 hours for the screen to come alive after turning on.

So what I have now done which I do not think is wise is to set my computer at NEVER in the time for going into sleep mode, and then I am not turning my computer off at all, day or night.

Is this very bad????

I guess I still am going to have the problem fixed in the future but for now am I doing any damage by doing this.

By going to sleep, I do hope you mean going to a screen saver?? my PC goes to screen saver in maybe 10 mins if I am afk, however I set it to never go to sleep, why?? when I'm done with it I do a proper shut down as should always be done, my monitor goes to sleep only.

I always had it going to sleep or screen saver ( I thought that was same thing) in windows 7 in 15 min.

As my first post said, lately when this happens andI come back to my computer it would not wake up. I would touch the keyboard or mouse and my screen stayed black , no reaction for at least 2-3 min. at first. then next time 10 min. wait. then 30 min.

If I turned computer off completely and then back on I would have to wait for the screen to come on also.

Now it is taking sometimes 2-4 hours before the screen will light up after turning computer on in Morning.

So that is why I have now put this setting in for my computer to never sleep. So I do not turn it off ever and my screen is always lit up.

that is what I am asking , how bad is this for my computer. Can I do this for a couple of weeks till I can get it looked at by my computer guy or should I make other arrangements to have it looked at this week by a new tech guy.

let me try to clarify something.

My screensaver is set to NONE and has always been this way. A ew years now and no problems.

My sleep mode was always set at 15 min. for the same 2 year period and I only started having problems this past 2 weeks.

Personally, I always set mine to never go to sleep(suspend) and never blank the screen(no screen saver). That's just me though, I like to decide if/when to suspend my machine and if I'm not using the screen I turn it off myself.

I never/rarely turn my computers off.

Other than wasting electricity, I've never figured it would hurt anything.

That sounds to me like something going on long before Windows is even involved. If you have the monitor turned on and push the power button, do you not soon thereafter see POST tests on the screen? Something similar to this?

I always leave my computer on and believe it does no harm compared to turning it on and off all the time. Yes, I will occasionally reboot for one reason or another, but it's generally on 24/7. My screen does blank out after about 5 minutes, and then comes right back after I touch the mouse. I've been leaving computers running like this for over 20 years and don't think it causes problems or premature failure. My current main computer (which I will replace one of these days for a more powerful one) is 8 years old and -- except for vacations -- has been left on all that time without obvious problems. Leave it on while you are investigating this and don't worry.

Does your monitor have a button to turn only the screen off? If so, you should be able to turn it on or off at will, which would further support the idea that the problem is with the computer, not the monitor. I agree with chuggerguy about reporting on what the first thing you see is if you have the screen on and boot the computer up (and how long it takes for you to see this).

Mine are all (2 laptops/2 desktops) set for screen saver to come up when afk for whatever mins they are set for after a time if set to sleep screen will go black. But I do not use sleep, no reason to, when finished PCing I do a proper shut down which is highly recommended. And by using sleep mode, do you not realize that a hacker can wake your PC and install terrible things on your PC, plus if it's a laptop, they can turn on your webcam and watch you!!! Oh yes, this is easily done folks. think about this and shut your PC's down when not using.

Seems like a power supply or a video card issue. Mine would have trouble waking from sleep (not hibernate -- never used that). After a couple months, it finally wouldn't come back from sleep at all. It was the power supply.

By whom? This is a long running debate that (to my knowledge) has never been resolved. There are good arguments on both sides but little or no evidence to support either. A shut down PC may use less electricity than one that's hibernating but I don't think there's much of a difference.

Hold off on the scare-mongering, this is nonsense. What you're suggesting is less likely than your being struck by lightening today. A PC sitting behind a router (a physical firewall) and having a software firewall (as all Windows machines have) that's turned can effectively be considered as not at risk for a visit from an uninvited outsider.

Read your own link, nut, it doesn't say what you're suggesting it does.

It says that shut down should be done when making hardware changes. It doesn't say to shut down at the end of the day. If it recommends anything, it's recommending using Sleep.

As I said, this has long been debated in the PC world (not just among local techs) and opinions are divided without any clear evidence one way or the other. One argument for leaving them on is that recovering from Off causes a voltage surge through the components. Power-on time is a common time for component failure (there's no disagreement about that), leaving the machine on minimizes these events.

I had W98 for a long time, 6-7 years, and near the end of that the power options acted up inconsistently; now they worked now they didn't, long lag times etc. There were missing options and options that shouldn't have been there and all that good stuff. Well one day I just gave up and slicked off the HD and reinstalled from original disk. All the options appeared as they should have and worked beautifully thereafter.

Thanks everyone, I finally brought my computer in to my tech guy and he said the computer was fine, so I then went back with my monitor and sure enough that was the problem. I got a new monitor and all is well now.

Well, with 10 years service, you certainly got your moneys worth out of the old monitor. Just a guess on my part, but I'd say a capacitor or two aged and started leaking. Many years ago when my patience and eyes were better, I might have attempted a repair. Now days, probably not.
