Larsi- In all honesty, I notice little difference. I do have mechanically softened water, and I measure my detergent by Tablespoons. I almost always use the extra rinse, anyway. I do love a splashy rinse, though, just for fun! I have not found that the rinse levels are terribly low. I am not sure if your Miele does this, but on mine, the first 5-10 mins of the cycle are monitored for water intake and the time it takes between top ups. It uses that to judge the size and weight of the load. After that, wash times, and rinses are adjusted by size of load. My rinse water levels are based on that sensing. Full loads get a medium rinse level, just up to the edge of the boot. Smaller loads have some what less, but not as little as the main wash. I have seen it do a high level rinse on a really large load of towels. Cottons cycles have a pretty good, hard spin between rinses, which helps rinsing dramatically. Water is becoming more expensive here, and I just got a teenager added to the household, so I wanted to try to cut back on the rinses to save some water. So far, so good.

Yes, this cycle has a lot of really nice features -- including REALLY high water levels, good maximum temp (140F) and a cool down of the main wash water prior to drain/spin to limit thermal shock. I think in older Mieles this was called the "perm press" cycle. The only drawback is that the max spin is 1000rpm. That's still plenty fast, and perfect if you're going to hand smooth and line dry as the clothing won't be mashed down from the g-forces. The workaround is to set it to NO SPIN and then follow up with a separate drain/spin cycle if you want to do 1200 or 1400 RPM. Glad you like it, Larsi. I'll be using it more and more for dress pants.

@Alex and Larsi, thanks for the great info! I hope you don't mind my hijacking this thread. Sadly, I need to stack. I agree, I hate to spend that kind of money on a dryer. Part of the issue is that my current Frigidaire pair is literally jammed in the laundry closet. And it's small for washer/dryers these days! Add that with my dryer being broken, I'm looking at options. Of course the most cost effective is to repair, which I will anyway (and forward to a family member) and jam it back in and hope it doesn't need any repairs until my back and shoulders heal, lol. Or replace now with a set that fits better. I'm on the fence. Is a condenser dryer shrink cotton polos on low hot, or just hot because it's a closed loop? What are average times for say jeans and towels? Or polos and chinos on low heat? The washer is my dream. As a massage therapist, I buy a washer based on how high the temp gets for getting massage oil/cream out of my sheets. Being able to process quickly will be great too. Thanks for the insight, I wish I could see them in action. I've only seen them unplugged. Are they quiet, like the residential ones?

I have had Miele washer from early 1980:s and there have never been any problems. Miele came with automatic level control late 80's early 90's. That was when they gave up the 1/2 option button. I have said this before and I think that nost washers are underused in capacity, a Miele washer you can pack the drum full and the washresult are great, a bit more wrinkles but thats it. Miele is the only washer I ever used that never had any problems spinning even very hard to spinn loads like area ruggs or pillows.
