Bungalow_House said pretty much what I was going to say. Right now the entryway door is too crowded being boxed in by the couch and with the lamp on the other side of the door. Bad Feng Shui. The TV competes with the BEAUTIFUL stained glass windows where it is now between them. Put the couch under the windows and the lamp next to the couch. It won't look "weird" having the TV not centered onthe other side. Right now the TV is hung too high for comfortable viewing and would need to be lowered anyway if you kept it on that wall. Putting it on a low wide console would be better for viewing and give you more storage which is always needed in a small house. It would also give a place to set keys and gloves down when you enter. I would check further on the fireplace issue. Most often in older homes of this era they put in artificial ones. Even when central heating became the norm people somehow thought they still needed a "fireplace" because that was what they were used to seeing in all homes when they grew up. It does not look to me like there was a flue there but I may be wrong and it is impossible to tell from a photo of the room. I also suspect that the sunroom had glass paned french doors originally and the PO removed them to make the LR seem "bigger". French doors on a sunroom were common. In fact, in homes of this era ALL the rooms had doors, even the kitchen probably had a swing door. (Check the frame for signs.) If they ripped out the FP they probably "modernized" the place and ripped out the french doors. Would you consider replacing them or do you like the open arch. You may be able to get the same style doors back from an architechtural salvage place or maybe get lucky and hear of a neighbor ripping out theirs and you can offer to "take it off their hands" so they don't have to 'pay to haul them away'. Having the doors put back into place will give you some "wiggle room' for placing furniture since you can partially block the arch with furniture if it has a door.

Wow, I can see why you are stumped. I think you need a strategically dumped glass of juice to help that tv out the door. As you know, it is just waaay to big for the room. Are you planning for a flat screen over the fireplace in the future? Not sure what you need to keep in the room and what can go, but my feeling is that there is too much firniture and much of it doesn't go together. I think you need to edit. Right now it seems like you are trying to have 2 focal points and all the furniture angled to face both. In my opinion this is a mistake. You need to treat each separately. It's hard to tell, but if you have enough room I'd place two small side chairs in front facing the fireplace with a rug in front of them. If this isn't feasible because of space, do one on either side of the hearth facing out. Angle them towards each other a bit. Another option that might work better is to do a rectangular ottoman in front of the fireplace. Straighten out the sofa so that it is facing the tv straight on. Leave 3ft between the wall and the sofa table. If you don't have room, lose the sofa table -you don't need it. Try either the large chair in the corner or the recliner on the right side of the couch facing the fireplace. Lose the little vanity. It doesn't match the other pieces in the room in terms of scale. The pictures could be hung on the wall in a nice grouping. Invest in a whole bunch of matching frames (I'd go black) reframe all the pictures and hang on teh wall. Target and Micheal's sell packs of frames for not too much. Also, I'd get rid of the white chair and the wicker. Again they seem out of place and I'm betting don't really perform any function in the room. I'd like to see a darker rug in front of the sofa. The light one doesn't seem to really go with anything in the room but maybe it's just my monitor. Hope some of this is a help, but let us know what needs to stay in the room and what could go.

Please help with furniture arrangement for my 18×20 great room. I am buying new furniture and am open to any combo of sofas, a sectional, etc. Placement is sort of tricky because of the corner fireplace and the placement of doorway and windows. The windows have plantation shutters. I'm having a custom storage bench built for the nook to store toys.

Hi! Were you able to try the sofa facing the fireplace? It has beautiful styling and would look good from all angles....and with the rest of your nice things it could be a great conversation grouping. I am also really interested in seeing your art!
