Odd text message, a phishing scheme or other?
Comments (5)Could they be for someone who had the number before you? We started getting messages on our answering machine from a pharmacy for a woman that used to have our number over 25 years ago....See MoreText message meant for somebody else
Comments (40)The weirdest thing that has happened to me, and this has been going on for years, is that I am constantly getting calls for Jennifer who has a daughter Brittany who obviously has a litany of health and learning disabilities. I get calls from schools, doctor's offices and social workers. I tried calling a few to tell them that they have the wrong number, but it was not much help. I'm not sure if she is giving out a false number of it my number is just similar to hers . . . but these are real places. It only happens a couple times a year so I haven't tried harder to figure out how to stop it. It's just sad and weird. I've been included on some weird group messages before, but have usually been able to track down the source and opt out. Again, doesn't happen often enough for me to sweat it....See MoreCompose on PC & send as text message
Comments (6)"But the message was saved in my email client and not in the message app; this breaks up the back and forth flow of responses between individuals." Of course that's how it came back. A reply to an outgoing email is an email. A reply to an outgoing message is a message. It doesn't break up any flow at all, you get back what you sent if you originated the message. If someone else did, then yes of course, they've decided what the format is, you have no choice. An alternative is to type your response on a PC and send it to yourself as an email, read it on your phone, cut and paste the text into a message, respond to the message. Text messages aren't really intended to be long. Best is short and sweet. People who make long messages or long replies do miss the point....See MoreNew scam - text message
Comments (24)Nicole, again I suspect you know this, but the best way to keep from receiving garbage is to be protective your email address, giving it only to businesses where your communication is important. Use a second email for all other purposes. I've done this for some time and it does work. Use a second, throw-away address for sites (like this one) that require an email but messages from which you would pay much less atention to if any at all. In my "real" email account there are no ads, no solicitations, no bulk. Even some sites that are essential (financial and investment institutions, insurance companies, household utilitiy providers, charities, etc., sometimes need to be coached. As with, No marketing messages, no special offers, no solicitations, nothing but statements and matters that are urgent. It does work....See Moresleeperblues
