Comments (2)Hi Uruchan, The white fuzzy spots may be a bit of mould/fungus due to you bagging it = no fresh air around it. Give it a very light trim all over. Place in a position which has good daylight - not too much direct sunlight. Keep only just moist, don't over water. To increase humidity, fill a drip-tray or similar container with small grit HALF fill with water and place the pot on top of the grit. Make sure the pot is never standing in the water. Comments (19)The doors/windows in the inspiration pic are a custom set of 4 patio doors mulled together with only the 2 inner ones operating all from the same manufacturer--likely a Pella, Jeld-Wen, Andersen or Marvin. We had something similar specced at one time and the cost was $3-4K with grids between the glass if I remember correctly. The cost skyrockets from there if you want simulated or true divided lites/grids. It is not easy to duplicate the look in the inspiration pic when you're using components from different manufacturers and mixing & matching windows and doors to get the effect you want. What you have appears to be the standard box store style patio door set with a transom mulled above flanked by 2 double hung windows. The problem with these style doors is that they will not look flush like the windows as the glass is held in by a chunky plastic frame that screws in place on the inside and outside of the door. The window will never have that look. You can get closer to the look in your pic by using flush glazed patio doors which more closely resemble the window design for uniformity. Changing the side windows to non-operational windows will also help achieve a cohesive look with the glass in the doors. I've linked to another thread that talks about flush glazed doors & mixing windows and doors below. If you need to use the pics in the thread to explain anything to the builder, you are more than welcome to do so. No matter which way you go, make sure the glass sizes match up in the transoms across the entire wall and not just the height of the overall transom. (you'll see in the link what I mean). Comments (9)I personally think Jon is wrong about Roundup killing a hosta, and the easiest way to tell is wait until next spring and see if any of it comes back. And I also think he has not distinguished between infective viral particles and live intracellular breeding viruses. But I also agree with his thesis that it wouldn't hurt to do it his way if you were going to dig up and kill the hosta anyway. Even if the roundup doesn't kill the hosta, maybe it will interfere with the hosta being a virus factory, and it is true that HVX is harder to spread when the hostas are going dormant. I realize I'm wading into a pretty charged discussion here, I'm willing to listen to disagreement. I take personal attacks poorly. I don't intend this as a personal attack, Jon. I have listened to all sides and read the material. This is my opinion of the interpretations of the facts....See MoreFruit trees not yet dormant - when to move?
Comments (3)I'm no expert, but I had a somewhat similar experience. I'm in coastal CA and had to move a year old plum from my front yard to the back. I moved it in the middle of dormancy, which was suggested to me on the internet by a few sources. I think the biggest problem is I had to cut quite a few roots to get it out. It definitely didn't seem too happy the Spring after, but it survived. It is in a warmer spot that gets less chill I'm sure, so that might have had something to do with it. Another weird thing is it is the only tree that isn't dormant yet this Winter (or at least it looks that way, it still has lots of green leaves on it...all of my other trees are totally bare)....See MoreMarie Tulin
