What's the most important lesson you've learned in your life?
Comments (42)Although most of the above are good, to me the most important lesson I've learned is that the best things in life truly are free (or at least fairly cheap). Good conversation, watching a sunrise/sunset, watching nature at its best, a snowfall on a peaceful night, waves rolling in, a sincere compliment, a hug, a pat on the back for a job well-done... An insincere thank-you is worthless. A sincere compliment is priceless. Money's nice but it's a tool, just like a drill. You don't buy a drill because you want a drill. You get one because you need a hole or drive a screw or something. Few people eat money. So many people have their priorities misaligned....See MoreWhat is the nicest thing about your man (any man in your life)
Comments (19)DH-Worked hard to provide for us and appreciated the fact that I was a SAHM. He was very very involved in the kids activities and spent a lot of quality kid time with them as well as sharing care-giving duties from day one. He is generous to a fault. He can do laundry, clean the bathroom and repair or build just about anything. He cannot cook however so he is banned from the kitchen except to nuke stuff.LOL DS- #1 is he is extremely kind to women. Girls always flocked to him. For a long while he appeared to have his own harem. LOL He absolutely adores his SO and is extremely protective of her without being the least bit controlling. He is a true believer in equal rights but chivalry is his middle name. He has my back. A real tough guy with a gentle nature. D(quite likely)SIL to be- He loves my DD and shows it in every way both large and small. A hard worker who wants a family to provide for and who doesn't have the materialist expectations of his generation. He has solid values and isn't afraid to fight and work hard for what he wants. As my DD puts it... he's a combination of her brother and the best qualities of the two other main loves of her life before him without the negative ones....See MoreSo what is it with men and ice cube shape?
Comments (31)Alright folks, I have a DH who is totally obsessed about his ice cubes. He refuses to use anything other than a square cube out of an ice tray. DH drinks bourbon and coke quite regularly. His explanation is that the square cube is larger and will not melt as fast. Obviously melting will cause the drink to get watered down which is undesirable. We use the ice from the icemaker to fill our cooler when we need to. For us it's cubes from the tray for all of our drinking refreshment. Unless we are making a frozen concoction. Then we usually use bagged ice. We slam the bag around and beat it up some with a mallet before putting it in the blender. We can't use the icemaker ice for this because it's usually "old tasting" since it sits there so long. I guess you'd say that we, well DH especially, are totally ice cube obsessed. Would you say TICO?...See MoreSome things women face every day that men just don't
Comments (56)Faron - I start my Stihl on the floor by sliding my foot through the handle to help keep it steady. However I'm unable to start our generator - the pull cord is too high up and I can't get enough torque - I'd need a stepladder. My profession was dominated by women and I can readily say that I never faced discrimination at work. Of course like most women I've encountered my share of men making crude comments and insinuations and as a young woman was never taken seriously when I took my car in for repair. And there were a few alarming situations where I seriously worried about my safety. When DD was growing up I tried to set an example for her, I felt it was important for her to see me as a capable woman. I wanted her to be strong and independent . When she graduated from college we went to buy her first car. I had already locked in the price online and brought a copy of the sales agreement. However the salesman kept saying that certain items were omitted and he wanted to re-write the agreement and came back with a higher price. I walked out of the dealership. DD was crushed because she thought she wasn't going to get her car. The salesman came running after us and we did get the car - at the original price. It's a story she vividly remembers. However she is now working in a male dominated job and is facing discrimination, ridicule and even career sabotage. There is no HR department, she has to take these issues to her boss - who frequently says that she's whining and then later approaches her when she's alone and rubs her back and says he's sorry. The only other females at her work place are doing clerical or administrative work and are off premises. She's the only woman working on the job with 6 to 8 men. It has become a toxic work environment and she has consulted with an attorney as to how to proceed. I'm proud of her for taking the initiative to get legal advice but she's so disillusioned and stressed that she's also looking for another job....See More- 8 years ago
