Got Windows 10, can't find files

I installed the Windows 10 upgrade this morning. One of the apps offered would collect all my photos, enhance them (NO!!), and put them in albums. I don't want any of that, so I unchecked it.

Now I can't find one of my folders. There may be others missing as well, for all I know.

I don't know enough about the OS to ask an intelligent question about this, but perhaps someone familiar with W10 can give me a clue where to look.

"Libraries" appears, and then its folders, when I'm opening a photo in Photoshop, but if I try to access this photo in Chrome, there's no way to get to it.

Well, I'm sure there's a way--but I don't know what it is.

Maybe try...

Local Disk (C:) > Users > "whatever your user name is"

and look around in there?

This upload dialogue is from Firefox but I would think it should look similar in Google Chrome.

Yes, I think that is correct-I had Office 2000/XP. MS Publisher is not included in the Windows 7 Home Premium package. More $$$!!! for Publisher. I am soo disappointed. Oh well. thanks for the feedback.

Lets in stall Adobe reader. See link below First on that webpage Put your mouse over the check mark on the optional offer. Click to un-check it, you don't need that. Optional offer: Yes, install free McAfee Security Scan Plus to check the status of my PC security. Then click in the lower right yellow Install now, that should download it to the desktop or your downloads folder, then double click it to install Adobe. tube- Thank you, thank you!! I didn't find any of these. The Hope company is in Colorado- very close. Do you have any experience with this type of window? Just looking at the websites, some seem to be insulated, some I can't tell. Would these modern day windows be efficient? I can't wait to call tomorrow!

Hi, and thanks for responding. Our old windows are 30 year old aluminum frame picture windows that were in the house when we bought it. We were hoping to replace at least the back of the house this year, but since we are currently updating our kitchen we thought we would start there. It has a small window and I thought a bow window would make the kitchen look larger and with casement side lites we could also have some ventillation. It is the casement that restricts some makers. The panes have to be so narrow that there is not enough room for the mechanism.

Click on start Menu on the left of taskbar then on file explorer, then pictures on the left column all photo folders should be in there. You should always allow W10 to put all back in your Pc during upgrade from whatever OS you had before, change nothing. It's also a good idea to save files especially photos on a flash drive or online storage.

Thanks for the suggestions, both of you.

I tried that earlier, Richard, and see some things, but not all. It's weird . . . even in Libraries in the Photoshop menu, my folder named 2015 Photos is missing, but everything else in that section (Libraries --> Pictures) is there, including 2012 Photos, 2013 Photos, and 2014 Photos.

Aputernut, going that route the photo folders are not visible to me. I checked the Settings to make sure recently used files/folders aren't hidden, and they weren't.

I didn't ask W10 to make any changes whatsoever. The photo option I referred to able was an app it wanted to add, and I refused. Windows 7 didn't mess with my photos, and I didn't want to "improve" on that.

I'm not concerned that I've lost these pictures; I have them backed up, and I'm pretty sure they're still on the computer; I just can't get to them.

Well, if you have them backed up, you'll be okay even if they're not there somewhere.

If you end up having to, possibly even faster than restoring from backup, perhaps you can locate and copy them from C:\Windows.old ? I didn't poke around in Windows.old but I suppose they'd be there?

I hear what you're saying about not wanting Windows to mess with your photos. I'm not much of a Windows user now days but when I was, I'd always create a separate partition just for "data" and put my pictures, documents, etc. there. That way Windows(or Windows programs) wouldn't clutter my stuff up by throwing in everything it thought should go in there(but I didn't). I thought it made backing up easier too. Backup data though redundancy. Backup the OS by creating an image made smaller by not including all my data.

That's just me though.

I'm thinking somehow you've saved them to one form or another of The Cloud. I can't remember which one is offered by the Windows 10 setup. I remember a couple: One Drive and Acer's version called Portal. On my Windows 8.1 SmartPhone it's called Camera Roll. Not sure I can explain how to get to your files from there if that's where they are (I've never used it). I have a 500gb Hard Drive where all my Documents, Pictures, Music, etc... are stored. Windows 10 and MS Office are installed on an SSD Drive. In my Tablet the OS and Office are installed on the Internal Drive Space and Docs, Pics, Music, etc... are saved to a Removable 64gb Micro SD Drive.

Gee, I don't know, Bugspop. During the setup they offered only one photo-related option, which was the one I deselected. I'm trying to remember the other apps . . . one was about renting or buying videos. I don't remember any mention of cloud storage.

I've been Googling, and was able to restore Libraries to one of the menus. But it still doesn't appear in all. Plus, the 2015 Photos folder is still missing from Libraries --> Photos. I just don't get it!

Click on the Start Button then All Apps. Go to Photos. Once Photos has open in the Left Column go to Settings. On the Right side of the screen go to Sources. Under Sources you should see and Files or Folder Shared with the Photos Program! You can Click any Folder found (Mine is C:\Users\Acer Win7\Pictures). When I click on this it opens the Pictures Folder. Many of my pictures are stored in this folder. Just saying; you may be able to find your Missing Folders in the Sources List in the Photos App!

Sounds like you can open explorer to the C drive and search 2015 Photos

All is well . . . my son came over yesterday and retrieved my folders. Not sure how he did it, because I was distracted by the loss of my phone and Internet services when an apple-laden branch from one of our trees pulled the wire off the house. It was repaired this afternoon.

But thank you for the help. I'm saving this thread just in case!
