Cupcakes with Madi and Maci

Yes, Maci is two. It's hard to believe, but it's true. They spent the night here on her birthday, so we HAD to make cupcakes and have ice cream. If we don't, it's not really a birthday!

Here's the birthday girl, testing the frosting:

She and her Mom and sister did some decorating...

Sprinkles. We need more. And M&Ms. And frosting.

And now, we need ice cream. Lots of that stuff with all the sugar and artificial colors and flavors, yeah, that's the stuff.

Oh yeah, it's good to be two at Grandma's house. There are bubbles and sidewalk chalk and cousins and macaroni and cheese for lunch and cupcakes and ice cream. Her sister can hardly wait until December, when it's HER birthday!

plllog, I've tried putting the toothpicks into avocado pits and suspending them in glasses of water and all I ever come up with is rotten avocado pits. Not that I could plant them outside here in Michigan anyway, LOL. Too bad, I've learned to love avocado, I used to dislike them intensely. Lars, I sure hope you are right, because it's fun to have someone to cook with. Even Bud likes playing with the food processor, "it's like equipment, for the kitchen!" dcarch, my house IS kind of like a reality show, sometimes. Only it's real. (grin) Madonna, we do have a good time cooking together, but my grandkids are living proof that all those people who say a kid will eat something they made themselves are just wrong. Madi won't eat "green stuff" and doesn't really like meat, not even chicken nuggets or cheeseburgers, Makayla doesn't want any sauces or dips on anything, she even eats sandwiches on dry bread, no mustard or mayo, Bud will try most things but is definitely a meat eater and Maci, well, she eats everything she can get in her mouth. 4 kids, 4 different eating styles and none of them will eat guacamole, even if they make it themselves! Madi's Meatballs

LOL, dcarch, she's doing pretty well for her first meatballs. She thought they were a bit too big, so she was trying to scoop less meat. The tiny one for her sister was about half a scoop. And she wouldn't eat any of the "green stuff", but she ate several meatballs and pronounced them "delicious". Cathy, you know I love having the kids in the kitchen. Cooking is something I enjoy, so I like sharing that with the grandkids. Other family members are better at things like fishing or playing ball, so they can do that. This is what I can teach them, and the results are edible, so double bonus. (grin) Lizbeth, I hope when they are teenagers or adults, they'll smile when they remember Grandma's kitchen and all the yummy things we made there. Carol, nothing sweeter than having the kids to play with, is there? Annie

Sol, my friend, I'm happy you're here again! You too, Olychick, I don't see you very much either. Lizbeth, I especially liked that cake because I like buttercream frosting, and the kids usually want fondant. They actually eat that vile stuff! Ugh. Madonna, they are growing quickly. I've got to take every chance I get to play with them before they grow up and Grandma isn't fun any more! Annie

2many, I kind of thought it wouldn't travel because members here once sent me a piece of key lime cake from Florida. It arrived in a plastic container in a crumbs and icing pile, and it still tasted good but it sure wasn't pretty, LOL. The pie, though, with the eggs and milk, I'm just not so sure about. Or rather, I AM pretty sure about. (grin) Cute idea, though. I'm not crafty at all, everything I try to make like that turns out like those Pinterest fails you see all over the internet. Every single time. I can decorate cakes, I can sew, I can build a training pen for the horses and field dress a deer, but I just cannot do those crafty little cute things, especially with a paint brush involved! Annie

Ellen, Grandkids are so much more fun than kids, I should have had them first!

watchme, I've had my girls and then my grandkids, in the kitchen since they were sitting on counters in footie pajamas stirring the cake batter. Funny, though, neither of my girls really enjoy cooking. Ashley does like to bake when it suits her. My granddaughter, Makayla, she LOVES to cook and is always concocting something.

Yes, dcarch, I know that it's biologically impossible, but it's still a great idea, LOL.

Cindy, I have 4, each of my girls have two kids. However, Elery had 4 kids and so he has 7 grandkids. So his and mine became ours and now we have 11 ! Maci is SO blonde, though, I don't know how that happened, and she has blue eyes. No one in her Dad's family has blue eyes (although her grandpa on that side was adopted, so we don't really know, I guess) and only my Mother has blue eyes on my side. She's a stinker, though, as you can tell by that face, so it's a darned good thing for her that she's cute!

Blue eyes are recessive so brown eyed people can carry a blue eyed gene. Two such people having a child together have a 1 in 4 chance of having a blue eyed child.

Now, blue eyed parents having a brown eyed child, on the other hand...

Adorable. I love these pictures. BTW, I have hazel eyes and both my kids have blue eyes, so I guess there's a blue eyed gene floating around I my DNA.

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes: Large, small, chocolate, extra sprinkles . . .

You wear it well, lovely girls :)

Happy Belated Birthday Maci!

Btw, AnnieB, I'm the only one in my entire family with green eyes. A gift from my paternal grandfather, a very handsome man I've only known through photographs (as he was murdered when his son [my father] was just a toddler). Both, Sam and Mr. Man-pants have green eyes. The legacy continues :)

Sol, I've seen pictures of your children, they have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. So, of course, they got them from you.

No matter the color, something about chocolate sparkles and sprinkles makes 'em light right up, LOL.

I agree - Sol's children are beautiful, as are Annie's and her grandchildren! And Colleen, you can forget what you learned about heredity - sometimes the rules get broken. My sister has very green eyes (and red hair), but her son has dark brown eyes, even though his father had blue eyes. That was not supposed to happen, but it did. The rule you listed generally applies, but genetics is more complicated than that, as we are now learning.

It's great when grandkids get to play with cousins! That's what I remember most about visiting my grandparents.
