Where would you live in Florida if you could live anywhere?
Comments (55)Musicman: wow...Pacific Northwest, huh? Somewhere up by Rainer? I was living in Seattle before I moved back here. I had to live there for work as I am in the technology field. I was there for about 2 years. I have to say, when it is sunny, it is a visually stunning area. However, those days are few and far between. I thought I was going to have to build an ark. It rained for 95 days straight the first year I was there, then stopped for one entire day before it rained some more. The second year was more of the same. Rain, more rain and then some more rain. Oh, and some snow too. When I had a chance for a job transfer back to Florida, I jumped on it. Puget Sound was not my 'cup o'coffee' (a little Starbucks pun...). But, I do know loads of people who love it there. I assume they hate sunshine and love paying $6 for a half a gallon of milk. From a gardening perspective, I was frustrated there as well. It seemed the only things that did well were azealas, ivy, spruce trees and that ugly colored 'cabbage' plant. The faux cabbage plant was everywhere. But, the azealas were huge and major show stoppers. Nothing like we have here in FLA. As for me, I don't think I'll ever leave Florida again now that I am back. I'm still not tired of one sunny day after another....See MoreIt makes sense to me?
Comments (55)Did you bother to read what I wrote at all before telling me I'm wrong? I wasn't talking about father who, for whatever reason, are less involved than they should be. I was specifically talking about fathers who ARE. I wrote a whole paragraph talking about fathers who ARE. Maybe there are "far too many cases, a very involved father steps back from his involvement with his children as soon as a woman comes into the picture and lets/encourages/requires the stepmother to take over many of the parenting responsibilities." What in the name of god's green earth does that have to do with families where that DOESN'T happen. My whole point was to address the actual family and the actual situation, not some hypothetical deadbeat dad/uninvolved father stereotype that exists in some other family. Whether you like it or not, stepmothers are family. Even my sisters-in-law are family, and I didn't meet them until I was an adult. My SM has been in my life since I was 14, in my brother's since he was 3. We lived in the same house. She helped teach my how to drive. In no way did that lessen either of my parent's involvement; I needed lots of practice! Stepmoms should bond, too. "Sometimes it takes a bit of effort on a biological mother's part to encourage father-child bonding in an intact family. Often babies and toddlers want their mom, but it is good to encourage their relationship with dad (as long as the mom continues to breastfeed the baby). It should be somewhat easier for a stepmother to encourage the relationship between father and child."-- but that doesn't mean mom should not be involved, just that both parents should. Again, I agree that IF dad is not a fully involved parent, he should be encouraged (by mom, stepmom, grandma, anyone available) to become one. However, that doesn't mean SM can't also be involved, and it has no bearing whatsover on families where dad already IS involved....See MoreWhat's on sale where you live? And where do you live?
Comments (38)I have used those Argentina shrimp and think they taste more like lobster then a shrimp when butter dipped. That huge vein is roe in the shrimp, the vein lays under it. A lot of waste considering the heavy shell. They are unusually soft after còoking. My fish monger said he hears alot of complaints about texture. I have used them on and off for about a year. I always notice a much stronger smell from the opened bag and when cooking. Suspect they are not being handled carefully on the boat. None of the other kinds of shrimp have those issues. I worked in my family owned fish market for years, know fresh seafood does not smell. I will not buy the pink Argentina shrimp again....See MoreLighting fixture choices: do all these make sense together?
Comments (4)Is it weird / noticeable to use a clear shade for the entry when all the other ones are frosted/opal? Love the shape of that foyer light and was thinking of doing an Edison bulb for that location as it's pretty small (4x4) and you can see it from the living room...See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
