When does CLM season start?
Comments (3)Ashley..I'm not 100% sure about this, but I thought once a citrus got LM, those little buggers lived on the plant forever.. I've talked to quite a few people who live in warm climates, grow citrus that have to deal with these trail-leaving creatures..they have tried all types of insecticides, organic and chemical, yet, LM's lived on. I don't like 4Winds Trees, got ripped off, and I'm glad you noticed and reported some of their citrus came with LM'ers..For the prices they charge, their citrus should be in perfect condition. Check the new growth daily..if any leaves are rolled, carefully unfold and look for LM'er worms. I don't know what their eggs look like, perhaps you can Google pics. Hopefully, the trails are from last year, and your citrus are now insect-free..Toni...See MoreWhat do I do with the Basil Plant when it starts to get cold?
Comments (9)Depends on how cold. If it's just a bit below 60, you should be ok. You could pull them up closer to a house for extra protection, or if it's easy enough move it in and out. I do both in spring to get a jump on growing season here. We have a brick town home with an enclosed back yard and many nights they just stay right next to the brick. If it's repeated nights, or 50 or below, your basil will stagnate and quit growing. Keep in mind that basil is annual, so you can extend it for a while, but there's a point to just start new, from seed or cuttings. I say this having harvested all mine today due to expected frost tonight, so your 60 in Dec is sounding nice!...See MoreWhen to start the 2010 growing season
Comments (5)canadianchiliehead, I'm in 5a as well but, there is a bit of a range within 5a. I'm in Ottawa but do not get the advantages another 5a grower would have by the Great Lakes (gotta love the milder lake effect). It all depends where you are within the zone. As booberry suggested I start most of my peppers in the late Feb. time range. The one exception are my notoriously slow super hots. I start my Bhut Jolokia, Seven Pot and Scorpion seeds early January. I need them to have a really good start early inside to get fruit end of September. FWIW, Bill...See MoreWhen do you start bringing out your fall decorations?
Comments (35)Mine came out today....yes, the temps outside are still in the upper nineties, but I love my fall décor. The mantle is done and looks great if I do say so myself. There's a wreath on the door, but not much else outside. Boo décor goes up around Oct. 1. I have a pretty centerpiece on the formal dining table and a couple of candleholders there as well. Need to get some fresh candles. I'm giving thought to moving my annual Christmas party to an early November gig. By decorating now, I can really evaluate what else I might want...if anything....See More- 8 years ago
