Thanks Flo Managan! Love all the ideas and photos - really helpful. We're thinking of doing black roof so it will go with everything - and the accents. Now leaning towards leaving the brick with a darker grey siding color and crisp white trim with a portico. Then doing a lighter stone steps with the stoop facing front on and curving towards the driveway. Thanks houssaon for the roof thanks for the warning, hopefully won't have that issue but good to know. When we replace the siding we are doing new fascia and soffits and gutters, they definitely need replacing. No the window above the garage doesn't have issues with leaking, it is colder above there but that's because it's above the unheated garage.

I looked over photos of Santorini. While the majority of buildings are white, the blue is limited to a few domes and screening within windows. This combination is part of an expansive view which you cannot duplicate in your backyard. IMO, only paint the top of the wall and columns as below. Then balance that with blue planters, wall waterfall and fabric on furniture. Remember that it is easier to find paint to match fabric than the other way around. I would not put seating next to the grill as I do not like smelling like smoke. The area seems large enough for a grill and utility cart. Your husband will be able to talk with guests while he grills. The main thing is to figure out from which direction the wind blows most often, so guests can stay up wind and so the smoke won't get in the house. I advise against building anything permanent until you have that settled. Bougainvillea requires a trellis. It must be tied to a support in order to climb. It also requires well draining soil on the dry side. Water it deeply every 3 to 4 weeks. Although this plant prefers full sun, a plant that has been in the shade must be acclimated to full sun slowly over several weeks. Start with 4 hours of sun and increase with half hour intervals each week. Keep an eye out early on for sun scald.
