The Science of LINE drying and HE washer spin speeds...

Since I've gotten the Electrolux I'm now doing my parents laundry and they pretty much line dry everything.

I (and my mom) noticed how their towels seemed more scratchy. I always tumble dry my towels, socks, underwear.

I do love line dried sheets (all bedding).

Today I washed all the towels in hot water again.

I did NOT use any Persil ProClean detergent, just about a 1/4 cup of borax and 1 TBSB baking soda.

I added more water to the wash cycle to really soak the towels to get some sloshing going on and there was hardly any suds.

I though I had over dosed previously with detergent but there were hardly any bubbles.

This time I did a "Medium" spin (instead of High or Maximum) and I think that made all the difference in the world.

I think on Maximum spin (1400 RPM), the fibers get so wrung out and flattened that when they line dry they dry too fast and don't have a chance to relax. They're literally smashed flat,

They now have the feel of when we had the Whirlpool direct drive top loader and line dried.

They are so much softer.

Anybody else notice this phenomenon?
