Lanlord Refuses to Give the New Keys to the Tenant
Comments (4)Thank you for taking time to respond. Yes, of course it has everything to do with the refusal to give me the new keys... I reported several major problems with the apartment (leaking roof, faulty wiring, flooding of the kitchen when shower is on, garbage disposal broken and kitchen sink is un-usable, etc etc etc) to the landlord at the end of September (7 days before new months rent was due). By the time October rent became due the landlord still hasnÂt lifted a finger to fix any of the problems I reported. So I held back rent. He filed eviction and began all kinds of retaliatory actions: cutting off my electricity for a couple of hours here and there, physically disconnecting my internet cable at the cable box and after I figured that out and connected it back he simply cut the cable that was running through his storage space in half and put a pad lock on the storage door , so I couldnÂt get in and try to fix it; hosing off the deck above me and ruining all of my stuff that was sitting below by getting it wet, etc etc and the latest one is the key withholding. I do have a trial date set but itÂs not until the end of February and I canÂt wait that long until I have my keys. So I was wondering if I can somehow force him to give me the keys or may be the Elevator Association can be forced to give me the keys. After all they are the once ultimately responsible for anything to do with the elevator, including issuing keys....See MoreSeller refuses to lower price or make any repairs
Comments (22)Cass66ragtop, how refreshing to read a post where someone actually understands the object of a home inspection. Buyers, home inspections are to educate you on the systems of a house. No house is perfect, NOT EVEN NEW CONSTRUCTION. You may want to try to re negotiate if there are health related (radon or bacteria in the well, mold etc) or safety related, dangerous electrical, structural, gas leaks etc. But it is not the sellers responsibility to give you a credit so you are moving in to a "new home". I've had buyers make offers on homes and actually say to me, after the home inspection, we'll negotiate a lower price. It seems to be what people think the inspection is for these days. Homeiecat I hope your agent didnt tick the seller off enough to stop any negotiations at all. You are a first time buyer and relying on his/her expertise, he went down the wrong road here and most likely put you in a bad negotiating position. It sounds like he is willing to fix the gas leak because that is a "safety related issue". If the roof is leaking you may be able to get that also, but it sounds like it is not but may be nearing the end of its life cycle (sometimes you can negotiate this, most of the time it is figured into the price of a home based on condition). Im afraid with trying to re negotiate for $9000, your agent may have just ruined any possibility of working with this seller. I wish you luck....See MoreGot the keys to my 'small house'
Comments (9)I am so happy for you, you won't regret this move at all. I did the same, and we are a family of 4 with two kids still at home (girls, 16 and 11). I just want to point out that smaller space doesn't always need smaller furniture, sometimes you make more of a statement and it's cosier just with fewer larger pieces. I did this in my living room: although it is only just over 20 m2 (215 sq ft?), I put a large corner lounge sofa in that is perfect and holds all the family and guests, it is so cosy and I have had so many compliments on it. We were able to get a new flatscreen TV (the kids and my DH still wanted to have one!) that goes on the wall: another piece of furniture less! I put a glass coffee table in front of the sofa to keep things light. This room is a living/dining room in one, and the dining table is 7 ft long and seats 8-10 comfortably, also big for the room, but hey, it works sooo well. I have a large mirror on the dining end wall that helps with the space, the room has 3 not-so-large windows and is quite light. We moved here 9 mths ago so have had family Christmas and everything here, without any alternative space in winter and two biggish dogs, so we have seen it works! BTW, the computer: I use a laptop for my work so I can sit anywhere, kitchen table, dining table, sofa, bed (I have an overbed table on wheels that lives at the end of the bed when not in use)... Workstuff and files are in a windowseat set up for hanging files. The kids, who have the whole attic space for their "room" have a PC up there, too, as they need it for school....See MoreSeller refusing to make some pretty important fixes
Comments (75)Right now he doesn't have a home to move to, that is why I thought he was using him to sell his house. My concern is the small market the OP wants to buy in. Reading all these posts makes me think I am an easy buyer, if I knew my small market had very limited inventory, I would work to buy the house irregardless of the non-fixes, they wouldn't be important to me, I'd fix them myself after purchase. Most important to me is location, I don't mind fixing to my taste. I understand other people don't want to do that, of course that is their right. I also son't mind dual agency, I've done that several times with no problem....See More- 8 years ago
