Oh, sorry. If it helps - We've probably all done it, and all have been just as mad at ourselves. I clearly remember taking out a package of expensive steaks I'd frozen once, putting them to partially thaw in the microwave (I'll often give things a little head start in the microwave on defrost then refrigerate until finished thawing). Then life got busy and we didn't even eat at home that night. I found the steaks the next night, room temp, in the closed microwave and had to toss them.

I try not to empty the back of my SUV onto the tables at the side of my garage. I come all the way inside each armload, through my office and into the kitchen, at least get bags on the countertops there ;) I know myself too well. I'd stop to check my answering machine, emails, get distracted and they'd stay in the garage....

Friday I bought peaches. That evening, when my mouth was salivating for one, I couldn't find them. According to my receipt, they were paid for so I searched high and low, sent hubs out to the car several times looking. I looked in the fridge, he looked in the fridge. Cabinets, trash, freezer... everywhere! I'm still wasting time looking when I know they never made it into my cart after being rung up. I want a peach!

Sorry about your chicken and having to go back to the store.

Been there, done that. Too often forget restaurant leftovers in the car.

Had that to happen, too. You can nearly see the dollar bills going in the garbage can when you're throwing away. And, sadly, recently it has happened to me more than once.

So sorry. Seems like we all have some version of CRS, even if just going into another room and asking, "why did I come in here?"

Donna, I'm sure you have saved more than you have ever wasted--shopping wisely, looking for bargains, so keep that in mind. We've all done what you did.

My husband does all the loading and unloading of the groceries. We have a big wagon he takes out to the Hummer, puts all the bags in it and wheels it into the kitchen where I can unload it from my rolling chair. I knew I had bought a package of raw chicken breast tenders but could not find them. The next time we got in the Hummer I said wow something smells bad. He opened the back door and found the bag with the chicken in it. It took some deodorizing and airing out to get the smell out. Thank goodness it was in colder weather and not this crazy heat we would have had fried chicken!

So you're not the only one! We all have those duh moments.

Hubby retired a few years before I did. He enjoyed grocery shopping. He once bought a large package of frozen raw shrimp and left it in the car overnight during a hot spell in summer. I threw out the shrimp and drove straight to a car wash the next day to get the smell out.

I've done that too. Seems like every day I am looking for something. I like to go to stores where I can check my own groceries because I know exactly what bag everything is in. I check and bag "like" items. However, I lost a jar of Claussen dills the other day. I gave up and bought another jar....and as soon as I did, I found them. Last night I lost the baby bottle that I am using to raise some kittens. I panicked because I just knew I was going to have to drive the 40 miles round trip back to town to try and find another one. I thought I had put it in the fridge but I had set it in here on my computer desk and it got knocked on the floor. So, with a wash and some fresh formula, it was okay....but today I am going to buy a spare bottle when I go to town so I won't have to worry if I set this one aside (absentmindedly) and one of the pups get it and chew it up.

Life happens. Dh was just commenting the other day on whether or not I was going to put the sausage in the refrigerator this time or leave it in the car. It's ok. He loses stuff all of the time and I make fun of him. He was going for a bike ride the other day and couldn't find his Gatorade anywhere. I found it... in the street.. at the bottom of the driveway where it had rolled from the garage.

One time I bought a fully loaded pizza and made it home with it and then stepped out of the car and the box opened up and I dropped it face down in the dirt. Oops!

The same thing happened on our recent trip to Block Island, although for not as long. We went shopping in the morning brought the food in and put (most of) it away, and then went out for several hours. In the early afternoon I decided to get a head start on prepping for dinner, since I would be busy later in the day until about 7 P.M. I got the various vegetables out, and the Italian sausage and started looking for the chicken. After spending 20 minutes looking everywhere in the fridge (and freezer) I finally found it, still in its bag, hanging from the end of the kitchen island. In my case since it was only a few hours the chicken was still cool enough that I felt it to be safe. If I hadn't found it until after 7 P.M. it likely would have been well within the danger zone.

Speaking of chicken going bad....I thawed a pkg. of chicken leg and thigh quarters in the fridge after purchasing it last Friday and freezing it. A little while ago, I pulled the package to bring it to room temperature before preparing it for the grill, opened it up......and it was VILE.

It had to have been bad when I bought it and that infuriates me. It's the second time from that Publix that meat has been spoiled.

I called them, of course, and will be able to get a refund but I swiftly declined their offer to get a replacement package of chicken.
