Did I just waste money on LG?

I just bought the Steam washer and reg dryer (WM2688HWM and DLG8388WM) thinking they were the match set... NOW, I see they just came out with a Steam version of the dryer not more than days after I took delivery. There was nothing on the web site a couple weeks ago and my retailer did not mention it.

My question is, did I save $ or waste $? Is there any difference between the steam function on the washer and the steam on the dryer? if I have one, is there any need for the other or do they do the same thing? Is it actually better that i did not get it on the dryer and saves some $? Or am i missing out on a different way to use steam on the dryer since i got what is now an old model without steam?

I am hoping someone who has used these steam system can help someone new to it like me understand the difference.

I have the 2487 steamwasher/dryer (no steam). To be honest I was amazed that LG would "follow" suit when they are/were the innovators. Not unless I am missing something about the dryers capabilities; why in the world would you need TWO units that do the exact same thing. Not unless you can steam more than 5 items in the dryer (5 is max for the washer).
The SteamFresh system is cool on the washer, it is made to get rid of light odors and/or wrinkles. The SteamWash is a very nice feature that I have used on occasion. The two are quite different. SteamFresh has absolutely no cleaning capabilities. I know on the Kenmore/Whirlpool dryers their steam feature is the same as our SteamWashers, I do not know if there are any capacity constraints though.
I wonder if you have to run another water line to the dryer or is there a water resevoir for the steam feature in the dryers.

I think they run the water line from the washer connector hose to the dryer.

I find this whole steam thing a little hokey. The brochure says if you are running late and don't have time to iron a shirt (which takes 5 minutes max) to throw it in the washer on steam fresh and it will be ready in 20 minutes!! Does that make sense to anyone?

I thought you could use it for items that you wouldn't want to wash like down pillows and comforters, but I think there are restrictions on size/quanity that wouldn't allow this.
Does anyone know?

I have 2 of the smaller two shelf ones and this one. I use them as shelves on the porch for clustering smaller potted plants- I like to start plants and there are always some that fit on the shelves. The 2 shelf was a gift from someone who also didn't want to use it as a greenhouse. The smaller ones are about 4 years old - I've even picked up good for plastic paint so I could paint them easily all set up. I used the cover for a bit on the big one (1/2 a season) but it gets so hot here, I took it off by May that year. With extended waranties, I have to say I am ahead of the game. I generally look at the cost vs price of equipment. For example, many years ago, I bought a 35 inch tube tv...at the time a premium to purchase... maybe 2K. The extended warranty was about 300 bucks. The TV developed a problem and the tech came out and said...oh that's a bad tube. We will get you a new one. Cost - 1,200. CHA-CHING! Another purchase was a Maytag refridgerator - extended warranty - $400. It was a miserable lemon. Replacement cost and REFUND - $2,100 - CHA-CHING AGAIN! In most cases, I don't get them unless they are cheap relative to cost. Currently, I have a rear projection lcd tv that I paid $2,600 for. The EW was $400 and research showed that lamps could be a prob and they are $250 a piece so I got it. The warranty is 5 years and includes 3 lamp replacements. We have replaced 1 and are about to replace another so we will be at a break even at a minimum at that point. You pay your money and take your chances.

Not sure why but I feel like I should defend our desire to move now. Our house is just under 2500 sq ft, which I'm sure is fine for some families, but the layout of our home is just not good--a lot of wasted space. My 2 daughters are constantly fighting over their shared bathroom which is literally the size of a closet--you open the door and it almost touches the single sink vanity. There is literally about 20-25 sq ft in there, and that's counting the tub. We live on a main road with a sloped driveway and my youngest, 7, has just started basketball and really wants a basketball hoop on our driveway, which we can't give her because of the slope and traffic. We don't have big parties because the family room is quite small. I want a kitchen large enough for an island. We chose cheaper finishes when we built as a young couple just starting out with our first child. We have been slowly upgrading, but I know that we have already maxed out the value of our home. When I said we will gain a little more space, I meant about 750 more sq ft, which would actually make a significant difference in a house that is layed out better. It won't be our dream home, though. Things never go according to plan--if they had, we'd have built our dream home last year. But in order to make things at least somewhat better, and by that I mean a big bathroom for the girls, a house on a low-traffic street with the basketball hoop my daughter is dying for, and some upgrades for me so I don't always feel like I have an upgrading project going on, then we will consider an in-between move. I don't mind "all the hard work and disruption and expense" but I should have stated more specifically that I would like to have better quality finishes, not just "newer" finishes. I have put plenty of newer finishes in this house, but it just is not the place my family wants to stay long term for all of the reasons I mentioned. I appreciate everyone's advice and opinions. I hope I didn't sound too defensive :)

Pls help - Franke Sink - am I wasting my money?

I have two large 30" stainless sinks in my kitchen. One is a Franke sink with a half "shelf" ledge. The "shelf" is the reason I bought it. The "shelf" is a joke, because the ledge is very small and sloped, so if anything of any substantial weight is placed on the shelf, it crashes down into the sink! The other is a relatively CHEAP sink by Ticor, bought for just over $200 from Galaxy Tool Supply. It is 16 gauge SS, is equally as sound-dampening as the Franke even with garbage disposal running and looks just as nice. You'd never think twice about my two sinks when using them. It's not a bit noticeable that one cost hundreds less than the other! Bottom line - After living with both sinks for over 2 years, I wish I had skipped the Franke sink and gone with two Ticors and saved hundreds of dollars! In fact, the Ticor sink is the one used most, since it is next to my stove and because there is no shelf in it, it is the easier sink to use for hand washing large items. could this be a version of the dryer for folks who don't have the steam washer? That is, it's purpose is to steam already clean cloths to remove wrinkles?

well, I'm one of those who despises ironing. so 20 minutes in the dryer that I can walk away from vs. 5 minutes of my time ironing is well worth it.

I have the steam dryer from Whirlpool that just came out, the 9600 series in aspen green. I have already made use of the steam feature. I HATE to iron my husbands shirts and the steam feature makes his shirts look decent enough so that I don't have to iron them. It's also handy when you've let the load sit for a while without folding and everything is a little wrinkled. if you run it again for a quick blast of steam it makes everything smooth and unwrinkled again.

Did I just waste money on LG?
