This video on how to install plug in wall sconces onto a wall, but it would be pretty close to the same for onto you bed. If you want the cord to go behind the headboard, which is what it looks like in the photo you shared, you'll want to leave the board below the sconce off until after the sconce is installed. That way you can slide the plug and cord in behind the headboard. You may have to cut/drill a notch in the top of the lower board so the cord has room.

It's an unusual style - not any named conventional style I'm familiar with. Judging by the darkening of the raw wood, I'd guess it to be made somewhere from 1890 - 1920. This fits stylistically as well. The carved decoration is applied to the post (as opposed to the carving being done as part of the post), which indicates a factory-made piece. The wood appears to be oak. It's in fine condition and the wood is attractive.

The other difference is she may have the "good grace" to realize it's not possible. Politely stated, the above beds are West Elm and Ethan Allen respectively. I would suggest jumping by kiddies on either is not a great idea, and both will be in the vicinity of a grand. They will not jiggle as they are the entire bed, versus a headboard bolted to a hollywood frame. I would suggest the first, to avoid the "matchy matchy" which is to drown a room in dark brown furniture, in this case a dresser, two side tables and bed, all the same. The warm golden tone far more updated , especially in consideration with green......... I'll politely suggest a hardware change on the brown furniture should that be an issue.
