Comments (30)Pepperdude, if I plant 5 seeds of something, and 5 plants come up, I call that 100% germination! With pepper and tomato seeds, I get 100% germination most of the time, whether they are fresh or frozen. Note that the melon seeds only gave 50% germination, once I figured out how to test them. However, you make a very important point: the seeds that you take out of the freezer can't be any better than the seeds that you put into the freezer. Comments (7)Most seeds remain viable for several years. There are some exceptions, such as parsnip and onion. But those are things you are less likely to grow from seed. I don't refrigerate mine, although that is a good thing to do. I just try to keep them sorted by type in large zip-lock bags and throw all the bags into a big box. Cool, dry, dark conditions are best. Some mail-order or on-line seed companies offer several package sizes. It is economical to buy several years supply of things you always plant.
