What Have You Been Doing This Week?

As usual we are always busy around here. Today I baked two ten inch pies to take to a reunion tomorrow. One is peach and the other is black raspberry. I also have a lemon glazed cake in the oven now to take. I am looking forward to going. I have not been to this one before. It is on my husband's Mother's side. It is a nice day out but pretty warm and sunny. Rain may show up later and later on tomorrow too. I hope you all have had a great week and what have you all been doing?

Sue, we're always happy to hear from you. Everyone will love your pies and cake, and I hope you enjoy the visit.

It was an ordinary week for me: volunteer at the library, haircut, meet a friend for lunch, yoga. Don't I lead a tough life???

Today, though, we are taking the grandkids to the circus. Apparently Ringling Bros. is phasing out the elephants (yay for the elephants), and this will be one of the last time to see them.

I have been doing laundry, cleaning up after DDs and grandsons visit preparing for a visit from younger son. Also got the carpet cleaned. Son took the train from NYC to San Francisco with stops in Chicago, Glacier National Park, Seattle, SF and will fly here on Tuesday. We will all see what we can do for older son and DIL who are moving into their first house this weekend. Talk about house poor!!!! But they are finally moving out of his one bedroom bachelor pad to a small 3 bedroom, 1 bath house. Ahhhhhh.

Monday--appt. with my urologist (he released me, tests were all good and he doesn't want to see me unless I have more kidney stones); ran to the bank, laundry, then DH and I had our regular check-ups that night. Yesterday--had to run to the nursing home for yet another loose end to tie up, puttering around here. Then DH and I went out to grab a quick dinner and make a Home Depot run to get paint chips for the living room (finally picked out furniture, need to paint now, before it arrives). Today? Mostly spent the day clearing the driveway and sidewalks. And another foot to come tonight--YUCK! Did call the Surrogate's Office to postpone my appt. from tomorrow to next week--that will will wait. Hope DH filled the snowblower with gas when he got home. I like to get it done while he's at work so he doesn't have to worry about it when he comes home.

Not sure if anyone wants to read what all I have been doing. My mother who is her nineties is going to have mohs surgery next week. It needs to be changed twice a day for two weeks and I have been on the phone continually trying to find help. Her request was to be able to live in her home and its getting very stressful. Nurses won't come out since its not skilled nursing, . I called another agency this morning and the director lives close to her. Hopefully if they can't help, they can give me the name of a qualified person we can hire. The nurses said they can teach someone to help, but they cannot do this as its not skilled nursing. I understand, but its very hard when you live 3 hours away. She has refused to come live with us, and we are trying very hard to keep her happy at home. I was up in the night looking on the internet for help in her small town.

I started a two week consulting job last Monday morning so have not been online much this week. Monday evening I attended a photo class. I now volunteer for the state of California monitoring the endangered Least Tern nesting grounds at Huntington Beach so I did that last Tuesday morning. My new client was kind enough to let me honor that commitment. Last night I attended a high school tennis team awards banquet for the boys my husband coaches. Today I took a photo class and tomorrow we are celebrating Mother's Day since my daughter couldn't make it to town last weekend. Monday is her 28th birthday so we are celebrating that as well. Jodi-

Woring, working and more working. And missing my baby boy (he's no baby. he's almost 14. But he's MY baby) loads and loads. He's hanging out with his dad for awhile. I am, however, loving not cleaning constantly. Or the constant cooking and eating that accompanies a teenage boy. I'm almost rested. I may actually cook something tonight. Something special that he'd never eat. Just so I won't have to hear, why'd you make that? EW. or whatever else he'd say. Kids! I've been swimming a couple of times. Went up and down the hilll so many times, my ankle got HUGE. Went to a work party with my huge-O ankle. Got my ankle diagnosed. It's arthritis (exceedingly mild) and a not very mild at all, tendonitis. I've been babying my ankle so much, it's weak as a kitten. I couldn't even stand on one foot without wobbling so much. I have been doing PT like crazy! I can stand on one foot now, but I have to move onto stand on one foot with my eyes closed. During evaluation I got to feel like I was at ballet plenty. Loads of bars with feet turned in, turned out, and loads of plie. Ok, maybe I just bent my knees some. May as well have been plie! Felt deep then. Getting better though. And I could probably dance swan lake with all the practicing. :)

What a good week for everyone so far! I've been picking and taking care of many many pounds of Apricots and Boysenberries. Just spent the last two hours getting most of the seeds out of 3 quarts of puree. All this hot weather has made the berries almost too seedy to eat, so into Jam they go. But the process is long and messy. Next week we will be lost under a huge crop of Satsuma plums. We have had some really normal pleasant summer days this week and the same for next week, I think.

Gosh, Marilyn Sue, I would just love to have a piece of your pies...well cake too. I never have been successful making piecrust and IF had a pie, I would be the only one to eat it, so just a piece would do.

I hope those Elephants find a home at PAWS in San Andreas, Ca. It is a remarkable facility and they just lost an elephant whose life as a performer was not healthy; that life is just not good for elephants.... or any animal. It is time we realize that.

Happy to hear that you got the pies baked. Except for a few left in the fruit bowl, I'm finishing up the last of this week's peaches--today is sugar-free peach butter for my father, and then peach-oatmeal bars, using Pioneer woman's recipe for strawberry-oatmeal bars, but substituting peaches. Right now I'm waiting for the peach butter to 'cook down', and waiting for the water to boil to sterilize the jars. (Ha, I got distracted before I hit submit--peach butter is finished, and I just heard the first 'pop!')
