FIREPLACE HELP NEEDED - 14.5' outdated FIREPLACE
Comments (8)It isn't terrible, but does look dated. When I bought my house, the fireplace was terrible. I believe old, dated brick SHOULD be painted. You can use latex paint eggshell finish, diluted 50% with water and sponge on. It leaves the brick texture, without an awful high gloss fake look. I don't advocate whitewash because it doesn't look natural at all with most brick tones. Pick any neutral color. Don't use stark white, as that won't go with your furniture or the style of your home. You might consider BM Lancaster Whitewash. Looks really good with brick, and is a warm off-white. I used BM Classic Gray (a very light beigy gray) which was the same as my wall color and minimized the monstrosity. It doesn't take long to use a sponge brush. Very minimal effort. You can leave the arched section as is Often the brick there has soot, and without a ton of elbow grease is difficult to clean. Paint may not stick. But the rest is easy. Do vacuum first! Everyone who sees my fireplace now loves it (none of them are shy about telling the truth). I think your TV would look far better on a bigger media stand, or build shelves to match the alcove size. Semi-customized shelving and cabinets would modernize the look and look less jury-rigged. The mantle and upper wood sections might look a lot better painted to match the fireplace. I left my mantle which looks lilke yours. Once the brick was updated, the mantle actually looked way better. Good luck with your project....See MoreNEED HELP! Comments (6)If your budget is limited to maybe paint and column wraps I would do the columns, but probably not with a Craftsman style which doesn't really work with the house. A beefier square column, painted the trim color would work. I would look at painting the shutters a color other than brown. Right now the entire house is monotone. A bright color on the front door to make it a focal point (I like the teal chair color for the front door)....See MoreHelp! Need to decide exterior paint asap! Looking for mock ups to help
Comments (22)Thank you Celerygirl for all of the mock ups....they are so appreciated! I['m still unsure at this point but what are your thoughts on shutters? Also, what is the closest Sherwin Williams color to your suggested Benjamin Moore Timber Wolf? I tried to google it with no success. I'm still so torn, Granite Peak was always my top but maybe a Gray is what I should go with? I literally can't sleep with this hanging over my head but I'm going to try, and probably like in the past, I'll dream of color and paint yet again! jck910 & katinparadise - I so appreciate your feedback too. Do you know what Sherwin Williams paint color is closest to BM Storm by chance? When you mentioned the blues weren't resonating with you, can you be more specific on the paint samples I have on my house? I wasn't sure if you were looking solely at the mock ups or those as well? (And I know have some dark blues in there) as well as some lights, the one on the left up top (Poolhouse) is my fiance's favorite but it's been a NO for me almost immediately. LOL Thank you all again, and please respond if/when you can, I greatly appreciate it. I don't know if I have to give the painter the answer tomorrow morning though I'm hoping I have until late afternoon....fingers crossed! Until tomorrow, good night!...See MoreOutdated Bathroom needs help, stat! :)
Comments (15)If you like your tile, keep it. If you like your tub and it's in good condition, consider updating the faucet and changing the tub surround. I agree that new vanities would be nice since the ones you have are pretty builder-basic. But if the vanity cabinets are in good shape and meet your needs, you might just replace the counter, sink and fixtures. The main issue with the bathroom is that everything is blahge. It needs some contrast. If you're keeping a lot of what you have, then your base colours are sort of sand and white. Here's what I'd do: bronze or black fixtures white quartz counters replace the mirrors with something more decorative, perhaps oval to echo the tub shape upgrade your vanity and shower lighting and make sure you choose bulbs that are at least 3000k (some say 4000k but that's too blue for me). paint the walls a soft blue or green add some pretty baskets, trays or boxes to your makeup area to organize your bottles get an upholstered stool or pouf for the makeup area buy towels that are a deeper version of whatever colour you put on the wall (e.g. navy or deep green)...See Morelc c
