Huge outdated fireplace ~Help!
Comments (20)I think it would be fine. The hearth looks to be more of an "area" than an hearth (if that makes sense). I see you have outlets on the right hand side. I know moving them would be a whole heck of a lot of trouble, but if you do built ins, that side would be great to run a cord for your electronics. I have built ins on either side of my fireplace and I'm not overly fond of the shelf parts because it's just something else i have to dust, but they do have cupboards on the bottom on one side and top and bottom (tv behind sliding doors) on the other. This I enjoy a lot as it hides board games and all sorts of junk that's not pretty. What does your fiance think about doing built ins? Will it be his job or will you both hire out? I'm asking because they will require drilling into the brick and I don't know if that's doable for you both......See Morewhat should I do with this outdated stone fireplace?
Comments (7)Agree with all above. Beams are great but maybe lightening up the colors of the beams or possibly changing the colors on your walls. Would definitely consider Sina's suggestions of a good cleaning on the stones and that should help. Maybe afterwards adding flat stones or simple slab on the hearth will help too. Comments (24)The texture, stack, color of the brick and the shape of a fire place is designed specifically for the style and era of a home. Painting brick and stone is like trying to turn a tutor home into a MCM and usually turns out mishmashed. To each their own , but the examples above of the painted stone and brick fireplace look cheap , flat and tacky. I've seen several posts on how to bring back the character and warmth in the snowstorm kitchens that was all the fad. I've only seen two on how to remove the paint from brick , but I'm sure there will be many more as the trend fades. Guess what, your stuck with it. You can't remove the paint....See MorePlease Help: Make this outdated fireplace look amazing!
Comments (8)This can be a fun project! If budget allows perhaps look into converting to an electric fireplace in the space so it's operable. I suppose maybe others like you just live with the fireplace look but have no functionality. With your selected wall color I would look for the complimentary white trim color for it to be used for ceiling and room trims. Remove all the shelves and either refinish them in desired color or get new wood to compliment. Consider converting lower half to have doors for cabinet storage and hide all the cords. I would remove the metal shelf tracks, fill the holes and drill new shelf pin locaters once you decide on shelf placements. I'm no pro so will leave color considerations to them. Pros will likely prefer to see photos of the entire space, both sides of room to get better visual of room details. Good luck!...See MoreHU-955174
