If your budget is limited to maybe paint and column wraps I would do the columns, but probably not with a Craftsman style which doesn't really work with the house. A beefier square column, painted the trim color would work. I would look at painting the shutters a color other than brown. Right now the entire house is monotone. A bright color on the front door to make it a focal point (I like the teal chair color for the front door).

The house lacks much contrast. I would paint the fascia board either much lighter or darker. Same with the shutters.

You do not need a rail and it only draws attention to the fact that your porch is quite small. I would remove it.

Are you getting new siding or wanting to paint it? I can't see the door well. Did you want to change the door?

To me, your house looks very nice the way it is. I would like to see bigger posts than you have. I wouldnt remove the railing. You have a nice little sitting area there and the railing gives a bit of privacy.. What, I would also like to see, is some color in your landscaping and on your porch. That would brighten things up considerably.
